Wood burning (pyrography) is an age-old craft to create images in wood...whether it be flat surfaces, or decorations in turned pieces. In this hands-on class, Louis teaches the techniques used in making a beautiful picture burned into wood. You will learn layout, copying, design transfer, wood selection, and burning methods. Build a one-of-a-kind knife in this hands-on workshop featuring one of our knives and woods of the month. Students will customize a knife by creating and installing handle scales from the featured wood species selected for the month. Participants will learn the fundamentals of knife handle construction, including grain orientation, scale layout, shaping, fitting, sanding, and finishing techniques. Using woodworking tools and abrasives, students will transform rough wood into a comfortable, attractive handle that showcases the unique character of the month's featured wood. By the end of class, each student will leave with a completed, functional knife and a solid understanding of the techniques used to create custom wooden knife handles.
