Designed for the novice turner, this class will introduce you to the wood lathe. Chris will take you step by step through machine set-up, tool safety and usage. No specific project will be completed, but the students will make a number of cuts while learning various tool techniques. Sharpening will be briefly covered, and students are encouraged to enroll in a future "Sharpening Lathe Tools" class (offered about 2x a year) for a more comprehensive learning experience.

The Boring Hand Tool Class

Who knew boring could be so much fun? This class will focus on the hand tools and methods that makes holes in wood. Through a series of hands-on exercises, attendees will try different braces, hand drills, breast drills and gimlets while learning the correct use of each. Discover which boring process excites you the most and the hole-making equipment you should consider. Tools will be provided by the instructor and represent a carefully curated list of technology from the last 120 years. Feel free to bring in your own brace or hand drill for discussion and comparison. The instructor will also discuss desirable features and specific antique models to look out for based on class interest.
