Woodworking Project Paper Plan to Build Simple Shaker Benches
Details
Building these two pieces will give the woodworker an excellent introduction to Shaker furniture.
The central stretcher on the 9-1/2" by 40" pine bench is permanently fastened to the legs with single wedged "through-tenons." The top is fastened to the legs with the same joinery, eliminating the need for any metal fasteners on this 18" high bench. The 7-7/8", by 17", by 10-1/2" high secondary bench is similarly assembled without metal fasteners - a typical Shaker practice. All joinery is shown in actual size. Curved workpieces are all in full size and you can measure and trace straight from the drawing. A bill of materials doubles as an exact cutting list. There is a detailed exploded diagram and all hardware requirements are provided. The exploded diagram is so detailed that project specific assembly instructions are not provided.
