Details

Spalted Tamarind (Tamarindus indica.) has a spectacular heartwood with background colors of ivory, yellow and black lines, which gives an unpredictable landscape effect. Much of the wood comes from logs that were found on the forest floor. Due to the nature of the species, bug and worm holes may be present on some blanks and no two are alike. We have collected some of the most highly figured pieces and improved on Mother Nature by stabilizing them by injecting an acrylic resin. This virtually eliminates the biggest problem with burl turnings, checking and cracking due to expansion or contraction. In addition, they have been dyed a range of vibrant colors. The finished product has a remarkably satiny texture, vibrant grain and a surface with a brilliant and durable shine.

Features:

  • Premium Spalted Tamarind, stabilized and dyed a vibrant color
  • Resin stabilizes the wood, beautifies the grain, and improves turning properties
  • Stabilized pen blanks turn and finish similar to that of acrylics or plastics
  • Stabilized wood blanks can achieve a high polish and are resistant to water, oils, and most solvents
  • Resin fills the cells of the wood rendering a relatively stable blank, which practically eliminates checking or cracking due to expansion or contraction
