The rich golden-orange color of Argentinian Osage Orange (Maclura tinctoria) is complemented by striking bands of lighter and darker grain throughout the heartwood. This South American variety tends to retain its color over time, adding to its distinctive appearance. Heavy, dense and stable, Osage Orange has a fine to medium texture. Its hardness can make it challenging to work, although it is surprisingly easy on cutting tools. The wood turns well, finishes beautifully and polishes to a deep, natural luster. It is commonly used for furniture, woodturning and fine specialty items. This slab measures 1-1/4" x 15" x 45" and is surfaced on both sides.
