Macacauba (Platymiscium spp.) heartwood color ranges from bright red to a darker reddish- or purplish-brown color, commonly with darker strips. Sapwood is clearly demarcated yellow to white. Grain is straight to interlocked, with a medium to fine texture. Good working characteristics for both hand and machine tools and turns and glues well. Wood has the ability to take on a high natural polish. Common uses include furniture, cabinetry, veneer, musical instruments, turned objects, and small specialty wood items.
