Argentinean Lignum Vitae
The original “Lignum vitae” (Guaiacum) is Latin for “wood of life”, and derives from its medicinal resin used to treat a variety of medical conditions from coughs to arthritis, and chips of the wood can also be used to brew a tea. Lignum vitae is one of the numerous durable, hard, and dense woods referred to as ironwood. On the Janka Scale of Hardness, which measures hardness of woods, lignum vitae ranks highest of the trade woods, registering at 4500 lbf.

Top 10 Game-Changing Tools of the Past 10 Years
Over the last decade, the editors of Woodcraft Magazine have seen and reviewed a multitude of new products. Some simply represented an attempt to build a better mousetrap, but a few have made fresh impressions on the woodworking world, and we’re betting that they are likely to continue making ripples for years to come.

Handy little tool
I’ve been using this caliper for several years and found it to be acccurate, sturdy, and easy to use.
-
Broke after extra light use
This product, used as intended, broke where a thin piece of metal holds the fine adjustment knob crumbled like a cookie. Haven't even had it for 5 days. Disappointed. But it does work well
-
Nice little tool
I haven't had any issues with these calipers; functionality or batteries. The few times I've used them so far, they've worked perfectly. They're about to get a more regular workout and I don't think I could go without them at this point.

Talk about a love affar
Use it for any measurement within it's range. Specially great if parts must be precision made and fitted precisely.
-
Case crushed in shipping (due to packing
Unit was shipped by placing inside the box of a portamate mega vise, and unprotected from the vise. Caliper case was crushed in transit, I now need to test the caliper for accuracy. Not satisfied with how the product was shipped!

Does as advertized
Exactly what I wanted for small dimensional readings.

Great tool
This was a great addition to my shop. Alot more accurate than a tape measure.

Particular son very pleased with gift.
Christmas gift for son who has every tool imaginable.

Good but not perfect
I mainly use this to get an accurate thickness of lumber when planed and when I need joining boards to be equally thick. It is also good for getting accurate measurements between open spaces such as daddo slots. The on/off switch is level with the top of the top panel which makes it harder to turn on and off. However, that also makes it harder to accidentally turn on or off. I would prefer to have the button to protrude a little to make it easier to turn on/off. The tool appears to be accurate, and the fractional display is OK but over rated. The tool is also a little bulky compared to my old 6" caliper due to its larger size. This may be a good thing for those with larger hands. I am short and have small hands. Over all, this is a good tool and very easy to read. The auto off is also a very good feature to save the battery when you forget to turn it off as I often do. My major complaint is that it quit working after I droped a C-clamp on it. I wish it had legs so it could have gotten out of the way. Don't be this careless unless you love replacing perfectly good tools especially a nonreplaceable gift from your granddaughter)

Nice tool
I have only used it a few times so far but it seems to be a good, well made tool. I like the fractions.
-
Great caliper for the price
I like the fractional readings, but you only get them when the reading is exact, as advertised. What would be useful would be to see something like a fractional reading with a + sign to indicate when you're between fractions. E.g., 7/64+. Otherwise you've got to roll back and forth to see where you are or convert the decimal.

Good tool.
The fractional display feature is definitely useful. I have checked the accuracy against Whiteside setup blocks and my tool is accurate.

Great Caliper
Can't live without it"

Improves woodworking accuracy
A gret help, where fraction to decimal conversions are not memorised.
-
Handy
I use this product in setting up my table saw, especially with the dado blade.
-
Great tool for pen turners
I use the caliper for measuring pen bodies when turning. The display is quite clear and easily read.
-
Not quite as advertised
The dual display was the reason for purchasing. The digital display is usually off by several decimal places. The 1/2 " is .48 - .52 not exactly .50. Still worth buying.
-
Feels Solid in the Hand
I use the fractional setting the most. Lately I have been turning pens and ornaments requiring several pieces to be fitted together. This does the job. I like the solid feel in my hand and think it will last longer than the cheaper varieties I have owned (I tend to be a little rough). switching from dec to frac is easy as well resetting it to zero.
-
better than expected
bright and easy to read shuts down when left unattended. conversion to factions in decimal mode is a great feature.
-
Clever Calipers
The fraction functionality is a plus.

Wixey Caliper
I bought one of these calipers as a replacement for a cheapy I bought off [...](short battery life and no fractions displayed). The Wixey is similar in feel and use but maybe just a little heavier, feels solid. I mainly wanted the Wixey for the fractions. It's frustrating enough using imperial measurements then trying to de-decimalise them is just too difficult. Bingo Wixey to the rescue. No issues to date. If it's as good as the fence and planer guage, I'll be happy.

I love my new digital caliper
I love it. It sure beats the other dial caliper I have that requires time to figure out what the reading is. With the digital caliper you read directly, great time saver. The only down side is that I will have to revert back to my dial caliper when the battery dies on my digital caliper while I buy a new battery, but that is an acceptable inconvenience.[...]

I'm very pleased with this tool.
I've only used this caliper a couple times since purchasing, I'm extremely pleased with the tool. It is much more accurate than my old plastic caliper.
-
easy to read
very easy to work with
-
Excellent value for money!
The only reason it does not get a 5 star rating is the scale on the ruler is not too accurate.
-
Awsome!
Great product, just a little flimsy.
-
Another nice digital device from Wixey
Nice caliper. Needed one with auto shutoff so got the Wixey. Does not maintain setting when turned off, so be sure to either fully close, or zero when turning on.
-
Just what the doctor ordered
Great price. Love the fact that it displays measurements in fractions to 1/64". Great for use on the lathe.
-
Battery replacement disaster
These calipers are easy to use and very accurate. The dual display of fractions and decimals is useful. The unit is well made and works smoothly, with one exception: The battery compartment contacts and "door" are flimsy and completely inappropriate for an instrument of this quality (and price.) My door broke the first time I replaced the battery, and I have had the unit apart twice since then (not recommended unless you are a watchmaker or a dentist) to bend the battery contacts back to function. If I bend them one more time, they will probably break. I would not recommend this to a friend, 'cause then I would be stuck fixing that one too!

I WOULD PURCHASE THIS UNIT AGAIN.
I BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT TO MEASURE MOURTISES AND TENONS.
