The Veritas® Carcass Ripcut Saw reflects the same design principles Veritas® used to develop their innovative dovetail saws, adopting selected traits of traditional carcass saws and producing them using innovative materials and modern manufacturing methods. Typically used to cut joints in drawer runners, dividers, and stretchers (the framework or carcass of a piece), this saw is well balanced, maneuverable, and scaled for smaller work than a tenon saw.The ripcut version features 12 TPI with a 10° rake angle and an included angle of 60° for efficient cutting parallel to the grain. The teeth have relatively minimal set, at only 0.003" per side. Each saw has a molded spine that incorporates stainless-steel powder for weight, glass fiber for stiffness, and an advanced polymer binder. An over-molded blade and stainless-steel handle-mounting bolt create a solid one-piece blade/spine/mount assembly, and a single brass fastener secures the hardwood handle. The open-grip handle, made larger than those of classic carcass saws, permits a comfortable, secure grip. The high-carbon steel blade, 11" long and 0.02" thick, has a cut depth of about 2-3/8". The saw is 16-3/8" long overall and weighs just under a pound.

    Great saw!

I purchased this and the Crosscut Carcass saw both from Woodcraft. After being back- ordered for a while, they finally arrived and have been put to work. The initial break- in to smooth out any burrs left from cutting the saw teeth was minimal. They are excellent saws by any standard and are comfortable and well balanced in the hand.

    Modern look and good performance

I purchased the saw to cut large dovetails in a 5/4 oak carcass and it worked great. I also used it for tenons on the same piece and again it worked just fine. I was a little concerned about the tote but found it to be comfortable in use. The saw starts easy in the oak and maple I am using and cuts to the line. I would give it five stars if I had used it more and had some idea about how long it will stay sharp and keep cutting the line.

    Terrific Value

Because the price was half of other fine saws and other good reviews, I decided to try this saw. I have quite large hands so I tried the saw in the store and found that it was a good fit. I cut a lot of my own tenons and small pieces by hand. This saw has a great feel, a thin blade and it is really sharp. I have been able to cut nice straight lines with it. You will need a different saw for ripping though.

    Very satisfied

Was in need of a pair of good tenon/carcass saws. Poured over all the brands and reviews. I took the unplugged workshop last year and Tom Caspar had the dovetail Veritas and said he really enjoyed it. I have a good Dozuki as well, but these outperform it in certain applications. If you are looking for a good quality western style saw, these ones are a very good quality saw at an unbeatable price. Went through hard maple like butter the first cut. Really satisfied.
