The Dozuki 9.5" Rip Cut is a full-size Japanese back saw engineered for accurate rip cuts with exceptionally clean surfaces. Often referred to as a Hozohiki saw, this specialized hand saw features true rip-cut teeth that efficiently cut with the grain, making it an excellent choice for dovetailing, tenon work, box joints and other precision joinery.
A thin 0.011" SK85 Japanese tool steel blade cuts quickly while removing minimal material. Combined with a narrow 0.02" kerf, the saw tracks accurately and leaves a smooth cut surface that requires little cleanup. The rigid brass back reinforces the blade, helping maintain straight cuts across the full blade length while preserving the responsiveness expected from a traditional Japanese pull saw.
The 9.5" blade carries a fine 18 TPI tooth pattern optimized for rip-cutting in both hardwoods and softwoods. Brass hardware allows blade replacement when needed, while the Japanese Wingnut wood handle is stained a rich dark brown and wrapped with natural rattan to improve grip and comfort during extended use. Crafted in Japan, this hand saw for wood blends traditional sawmaking with materials selected for precise joinery work.
