  Woodcraft has brought together the most exceptional stock of domestic and exotic hardwood knife scale blanks, either 1"-thick solid stock or matching 3/8" pieces. Each piece is selected for its striking figure, and blanks are milled to sizes that make the knife making process easy and efficient with minimal waste.
  
  Black Palm (Borassus flabellifer) has a brown background streaked with elongated dark brown and black vascular bundles. Black Palm has a medium to fine texture with straight grain. The end grain exhibits an interesting spotted appearance and the elongated bundles terminate in an interesting “eye” that glows when polished, revealing spectacular results. This wood is hard and heavy and the bundles can be quite stringy, so extremely sharp tools are required. Common uses include walking sticks, knife and tool handles, furniture and turned objects.

  Spalted Tamarind (Tamarindus indica) has a spectacular heartwood with background colors of ivory, yellow and black lines, which gives an unpredictable landscape effect. Much of the wood comes from logs that were found on the forest floor. Due to the nature of the species, bug and worm holes may be present on some blanks and no two are alike. We have collected some of the most highly figured pieces and improved on Mother Nature by stabilizing them by injecting an acrylic resin. This virtually eliminates the biggest problem with burl turnings, checking and cracking due to expansion or contraction. In addition, they have been dyed a range of vibrant colors. The finished product has a remarkably satiny texture, vibrant grain and a surface with a brilliant and durable shine.
