    Does not work with planer

Works well with table saw but clogs real fast when using planer.

    Unbelievably quiet

Just purchased this unit today, and to say that I'm impressed is an understatement. I had to downsize my shop when I moved, and could no longer use my Jet DC-1100 on my Grizzly 5 hp tablesaw. So, I hooked up a Ridgid shopvac to try to capture the dust. WRONG! A tablesaw DOES require at least 450 cfm of air flow in order to capture the dust. Not only that, the noise level was absolutely horrendous! Sound checking with a dB meter showed almost 90db at the tablesaw when both saw and vacuum were running, and over 80 db with just the vacuum. It was painful to be near it. (As an FYI for non-sound engineers, for every 3db of sound increase the noise level doubles.) So, I hooked up the Rikon and re-ran the sound tests. With both units running, the level was at 78db!! With only the Rikon running, it was at 64.5db. Incredibly quiet. So far, I'm very impressed with the unit.

    Worth every penny

Purchased on sale for my thickness planer and jointer - the machines are next to each other on my shop floor with the dust collector between them on the floor, so switching a hose between the two is not so bad - for less than 200 bucks it really sucks some chips - it's not a bad shop vac either I also plugged it to a inexpensive (amazon purchased) remote starter I'd honestly recommend it to anyone hooking it to one machine at a time

    It Sucks

This thing really SUCKS up the dust, money well spent. There is one thing I don't like, the wheels are the same as the ones on a cheep office furniture, better ones would be NICE.

Super Dust Collection - Efficient and Quiet!

I started thickness planing some poplar for some custom window trim. I don’t have dust collection other than a shop vacuum and did not have the fitting to connect the planer to it. One pass thru the planer was enough show me that needed to change. I went to Woodcraft with the intention of getting a separator to hook up to the vacuum. To get to the dust collection parts, I was “forced” to walk by the power tools, including small dust collectors from Jet and Rikon. And they were on sale… After looking at what I would already spend just getting something for my shop vac and realizing that was only a temporary solution, I decided to bite the bullet. I walked out with the 1hp Rikon Portable Dust Collector and the Oneida 4” Super Dust Deputy. My biggest concern with dust collectors is noise. I have a garage shop in a townhome. Table saws, planers, and the rest are noisy enough that I don’t want to add to that and bother the neighbors more than I already do. So I got home and 45 minutes later had the Rikon and Oneida assembled and hooked up to my planer. When I turned on the Rikon, I wasn’t sure it was plugged in then I saw the filter bag inflating. This thing is REALLY quiet! Let’s see how effective it is. I turned on the DeWalt 735 planer (and though loud, is a lot quieter than the Porter Cable planer I had 20 years ago) and started running wood through it. I have 4 poplar boards between 9 and 10 feet long and 8 to 10 inches wide. I starting planing from 1.25 inches thick (rough) intending to work them down to 1” thick in thin passes. I ran the first board and watched the chips move through the clear flexible hose. No sawdust anywhere! I shut down and checked the 2 micron filter bag on the Rikon. Just some light dust, nothing else. I ran the rest, working down in small increments to be easier on the planer blades. When complete, I shut everything down and checked the Rikon bag. There was maybe a tablespoon of fine dust in the bag. I unclamped the 17 gallon barrel on the Oneida. It was full! I have to say I could not be happier with this combination and will be mounting the Rikon on the wall today! The only thing I will need now is to figure out what size trash bag I can put in the Oneida to make emptying easier.

Excellent for sanding and turning on my lathe

I don't often write reviews but, after 4 months of use, I decided this item was worth a review. It takes small shavings from my turning but, most of all, it sucks all the dust from sanding on the lathe. It's so efficient that I don't need to use a face mask any more.

    Perfect size dust collector

I gave away my large dust collector because it took up too much room. I bought this one and have been very satisfied with the performance and quality of Rikon. It is easy to roll around to my various tools and is light enough to carry, if needed. Suction works well with planer and catcher basin. Highly recommend.
