pfeil carving tools and pfeil carving tool sets are Swiss made. Swiss made implies reliability and precision. pfeil is undoubtedly the finest carving tool on the market and is second to none in terms of manufacturing quality and durability. These butt chisels from the makers of the world's finest carving tools feature the same high quality and craftsmanship as that found in all our Swiss carving tools. Butt chisels are easier and more controllable to use for joinery than full-sized bench chisels. When you're trying to hold your chisel exactly on a line and perfectly vertical while you strike it, you will love using these shorter chisels. Faceted, contoured European locust handles fit the hand comfortably but prevent the chisels from rolling off your bench. Blades are made of Swiss alloy tool steel and heat treated using the latest technology for excellent edge holding. Chisels are ground and polished from the maker. Overall length is 6". Blade length 3-3/8". Chisel is 6mm, approximately 1/4" wide. This 4-piece set includes 6mm (1/4"), 12mm (1/2"), 19mm (3/4"), and 25mm (1") wide chisels and includes a fitted wooden block to safely store and protect your chisels when not in use.

quality - best out of box found..

What none of the other reviews are telling you ! they come not just honed but POLISHED to a mirror sharpness you can shave with. One of the very few "High Quality" edge tool makers still out there.. get em while you can. Quality definitely seems to be going out of style along with pride of the craftsman ... how sad ! I'm 70 yrs old, done wood all my life. I got these for my son and he loves them. only one draw back they are metric. boo! '

    They fit the need

I wanted a good quality butt chisel for tight work on cleaning up through-mortises and other close in paring work. Once I got the right honing guide that would handle the shorter butt chisel so that I could keep them sharp and maintained, I was much happier with them. They have a good feel for my small hands. They hold an edge well. Very satisfied. I went ahead and ordered a set of their bench chisels based on their quality and performance.

    Overpriced - poor quality handles.

For the price, would not recommend.

    Worth every penny

I use these primarily for inleting stocks, and these are a joy to use. Mine were ready to use when purchased, and have only required minor stroping to maintain the edge while used with dense hard maple.
