Works poorly. Is this really macacauba?

Macacauba is a new wood for me and I first experienced it in the Combo Pack, Item # 173789. After I figured out which piece it was, I was very impressed. It's hard and heavy but works well and is absolutely beautiful when finished. It's hard to get information on, but try looking for images under "granadillo". So I thought I would try turning it. Woodcraft has different turning blanks listed as "macacauba" and "granadillo". Huh? I ordered both. They are totally different. The one labeled macacauba looks nothing like anything in the Combo Pack and works really poorly. Off the table saw, the surface is really fuzzy. Turning is a nightmare. Surface tear-out is appalling and chunks actually fly out. I don't think I'll be able to make use of this at all. I'm not unhappy, I still love Woodcraft, so there's no need to offer me a coupon, but this is not a product I'd recommend.
