Good but weak
I got this as a free upgrade when I bought a Next Wave Piranha XL. The physical setup was easy, but I had to download the driver for it from Next Wave, and the learning curve was fairly steep. It definitely works for drawing lines (I'm making snowflakes with it right now) at 40 inches per minute. My only real complaint is that it's not particularly powerful. It takes 3 passes at 10ipm in order to cut through1/16" birch ply. And 1/8" ply? Not really practical, IMO. I'm thinking that I might spring at some point for the 7W laser, if I do a lot of laser cutting. For what it is, I like it. It (and the CNC itself) are very precise. One thing about it - make SURE you follow directions and clean the lens after every hour of use, or the ability to cut will be greatly reduced. I've been using a a Q-tip moistened with ammonia spray, stuck up the hole where the lens is. I took the laser out of the router the other day, and instead of just sticking in a Q-tip, cleaned the laser thoroughly. I'd probably used it for about 12 hrs of use, and it was completely caked with soot, so I'll be taking it out of the router more often.
