Iwasaki files cut with surprising speed and yet leave a smooth surface due to the manner in which the teeth are milled and chemically etched. Combine that with the diagonal groove pattern, the result is a file that will cut like a plane, but with very little resistance and with the built in chip-breakers to help prevent clogging. All of the files are safe edged, allowing you to use them to adjust a mortise and tenon joints like a float or to fine tune the body of a wood plane without digging into the adjacent surfaces. Suitable for all types woods or plastics, their aggressive action provides short detail strokes without compromising speed. Whether you are working on a carving, or turning a pen with the choice of a medium, fine and extra fine tooth configuration Iwasaki Carving Files offer the right file for your task at hand.

From the first time woodworkers tried sandpaper-on-glass sharpening, they’ve wrestled with the fact that most abrasives can’t stand up long against steel. The Work Sharp’s plate and guide design accelerates the effect. The consistent touch point quickly wears away a ring of abrasive, especially when using the coarsest grits. Worn paper encourages the user to press harder, which doesn’t make sharpening any faster and overtaxes the machine.

      a STELLAR item!

Absolutely superior to any file or rasp I have ever used. After tossing my Shurforms, Microplanes and cheap rasps in disgust, I was delighted to start my collection of these wonders. Fine is really medium, and Medium is really course - however even the Medium will give you a smooth finish except for little high ridges that sand off easily. This small file is so aggressive that I often prefer it to the larger version which requires two hands to use. The refined and polished chip-breaker edge design is so sharp and effective, it will please a master machinist. It's highly resistant to clogging. I only wish they offered a 2-sided fine/medium combination.

      Super effective design

A light touch does seem to work best and of course filing down the grain instead of cross-grain leaves a smoother surface. Be sure to protect file surfaces by storing in some kind of cover...these are very fine edged sharp instruments and deserve care. I have both of the med. cut 150's - the dipped handle is a nice feature...and the flat 2-sided file is a stellar bargain. I also have the flat 200mm medium which has a much more agressive cut...watch the video...these things take stock down with amazing speed and ease. I strongly recommend these files to anyone interested in and working with hand tools.

      Excellent tool

I also bought the half round medium cut file and both are great additions to the shop. Very sharp and give a good quality cut.
