Helle Knives collaborated with Les Stroud, star of the Survivorman TV series, to design the Mândra Fixed Blade Knife that was tested and refined on a Survivorman location in a remote area of Romania. The lightweight (2.5 oz.) Mandra is meant to be worn around the neck for easy access while hunting, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities.
This Mândra Kit comes with a triple laminated stainless steel blade, pre-punched genuine leather sheath, snaps, rivets, and thread. That right, not only will you be crafting the handle for the blade but you will also be crafting the sheath. The sheath has been pre-punched with the appropriate stitching patterns to make it simpler to complete. Manufacturer’s instructions included. Knife measures 5-7/8" overall, with a 2-3/4" blade length. Handle material and needles sold separately.

What sets Helle knives apart from other knives on the market is the triple laminated stainless steel blade. The core is made of high alloy steel, which gives it a lasting, razor-sharp edge. To exploit the superb qualities of the high alloy steel, Helle added two layers of tough stainless steel (18/8) to protect the blade against breakage and corrosion, while the high carbon core still provides a superb cutting edge. Triple laminated stainless steel is unique to Helle knife blades and is more expensive than steel used in most other knife brands. Helle’s choice of the more expensive steel reflects the company’s philosophy of never compromising quality.
Since 1932, Helle knives have represented the very highest quality of Norwegian craftsmanship. When Steinar and Sigmund Helle began producing sheath knives at their farm in Homeland, Norway, the knives quickly became popular. As the local market became too small, the Helle brothers expanded to Oslo. Although Helle knives are sold around the world today, Helle knife production has not changed much. While many knife manufacturers today rely on automated production and large product lines, Helle depends on quality and production through craftsmanship and firsthand knowledge of what makes a good knife. Much of the production is still done manually.
Craftsmen with extensive experience and knowledge still take pride in making each and every Helle knife unique – a knife that is designed to meet the demands of the outdoors, and one that will last for generations.
