Wood turners use many different kinds of finish, usually based either on what they are doing or what they like. Food-safe, durable, acid resistant, quick drying, easy to apply and VOC compliant are all desirable attributes, but they usually do not all come in the same product. General Finishes® has managed to do just that – crammed it all into their Wood Turner's Finish. This product has it all, plus it buffs out beautifully with as little as a single coat. Add multiple (3, 6 or 10) coats, and it begins to have depth like a hand polished lacquer or multiple coats of CA glue (without the noxious fumes). Do not let the name fool you – this finish is equally at home on furniture, and it sprays like a dream.

Very worthwhile finish
General Finish's Wood turners Finish is a bona fide, high quality product that makes no wild claims but delivers superb results. I was using it on some small items and splattered some on a Formica table top. During the first 24 hours I could barely scratch if off the surface. After that, forget it. No scratching it off, hard as nails, and tough as a Democrat in the cheese line. It is also high build so you can apply several coats and achieve a very protective finish, even on Formica. High gloss too unless you want to knock it down with fine abrasives.

Works good
Easy to apply while the lathe is turning slowly. Dries quickly so allow multiple coats in a short time. It is water based. This keeps the smell down, but also raises the grain.

Awesome!!
Wipe on with small piece of a scotch bright easy eraser while turning your piece on the late by hand at about 40 rpms. Keep turning slowly for about 5 min till dry. use a hair dryer to speed up (just a bit or it will burn/bubble). Sand with high grit (15000+) paper. Apply another coat after 15-20 mins.. I do 7 or 8 coats. Then flip and recheck for second side. No smell, no vapors, no flammable rags. Great!!
