1905 Victorian Restoration - used 16 bags of this Garnet Shellac
We wanted to honor the original grandeur of this 1905 Victorian we are restoring - we found the interior of a door that still had the original Shellac finish on it and decided to research and find the best quality shellac we could to refinish all of the doors and trim in our home. We stripped all of the Southern Yellow Pine trim to bare wood and used this product to refinish it. We decided to use a HVLP sprayer to apply this product - and we used Shellac Reducer by Finisher's Edge (Mohawk's new line) to dissolve the flakes. We are very happy with this product, it performed better than expected and turned out absolutely beautiful. We put on the 1st coat with a 1lb. cut, then added 3 or 4 more coats - another 1lb. cut coat then a couple 1 1/2 lb cuts. We will be topcoating the shellac coats with another product called Ilva - a 2 part poly that is used in cabinet refinishing. Bottom line, we will absolutely use this brand of shellac flakes again - other brands were pretty cloudy compared to how clean and crisp this product is.

Brooklyn Tool & Craft Garnet Shellac 1/2 lb - TERR
I have use shellac extensively in the past on various projects for clients without issue. This stuff sucks! Goes on flat, gives no depth of the wood to which it is being applied. I was in need of more shellac to finish a project, I chose this stuff because it was on sale. The store only had one left, I left disappointed. Now I am glad that they did not have any more. I would have wasted both time and money.
