Commonly referred to as a water-based polyacrylic sealer, the acrylic resin and self-curing urethane blend builds quickly, making it an ideal choice for beginners and professionals alike. Black Dog Salvage Topcoat Painting Techniques:
Treat your Guard Dog right: stir only. No shaking
Apply it to your project with a good quality brush (bristle or foam – your choice) or a paint sprayer
If spraying, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s setting and thinning recommendations
Lightly sand between coats
If painting on pieces where chalk paint waxes have been used, make sure to remove any remaining wax
One pint-plus can covers approximately 79 square feet and dries to the touch in approximately 1 hour. Item can be put into light service in 1-2 hours and normal use overnight. Items with heavy use may require a full cure time of a few days. Made in the USA.

When Woodcraft teamed up with Black Dog Salvage to create a new paint line, co-owners Mike Whiteside and Robert Kulp had a secret weapon – Susan “Swooz” Hudson. A former public school art teacher for 22 years and resident painting techniques expert at Black Dog, Swooz often appears on the Salvage Dawgs DIY television show with Mike and Robert. She was instrumental in the development of the new Black Dog Salvage Furniture Paint and Guard Dog Topcoat Paint Protector and had very strong ideas on what she wanted to achieve with the formulation.
When launching a new national product line, a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes to make it happen and to market it once it is ready for debut. Black Dog Salvage Furniture Paint was a year-long collaboration with teams from Woodcraft and Roanoke, Virginia-based, Black Dog Salvage, the architectural reclamation and repurposing company featured in the DIY Network reality-style show Salvage Dawgs.
