Advanced Sketchup for Woodworking - CLS515

Attendees are highly encouraged to have attended the Introduction to SketchUp class, or will need to have a basic familiarity and understanding of the standard software. Attendees will be guided through a hands-on tutorial of advanced features of the software package. Attendees are highly encouraged to bring a laptop with a 3-button mouse. The course will be taught by Dr. Jason Kolowski, owner of Piedmont Woodshop, LLC, a custom woodshop in Leesburg, VA. Dr. K is a professor of graduate studies at Stevenson University and has been using SketchUp for over 10 years in various formats and applications. Dr. K has no association or relationship with Trimble or SketchUp, and is not selling or reselling any aspects of the software. The course is designed to guide users through the advanced aspects of the software package, with a focus on utilizing it in woodworking design. The course will entail the following: - Project layout and boundary design. - Hiding/unhiding objects, wireframe, and X-ray views of objects. - Building components, grouping / exploding components, and editing layout. - Creating offsets, reveals, and vectors. - Importing skins / textures / colors, and applying to components. - Importing / creating trim profiles. - FollowMe tool for creating wrapped trim profile. - Advanced use of OpenCutList extension for woodworking. - Creating and exporting 3D components for 3D printing or CNC processing. - Creating and exporting Scenes for use in Layout.
