Stair Step 3D Cutting Board

Making a 3D cutting board doesn’t have to be intimidating! Join our resident cutting board craftsman, Jody Greene, as he walks you through how to make the perfect gift for the holidays! Using only three different woods - maple, cherry, and walnut – Jody will guide students through the process by teaching techniques required to build a cutting board: how to make dead-on straight cuts and accurate angled cuts on the bandsaw, and how to plane, sand, glue, and clamp the cutting board. Topics to be covered include: bandsaw mechanics, correct blade tension, accurate angle cuts, gluing techniques, end-grain planing, end-grain pattern alignment, food-safe finishes, and care and maintenance of cutting boards. By the end of the day, each student will have a fantastic 3D cutting board made with their own hands! This class is designed for woodworkers of all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner or someone wanting to brush up on your turning skills, this basic bowl turning class is for you! This class will cover shop safety and the proper use of a lathe by making a basic bowl from start to finish. To minimize drying times so that the student can finish their bowl in a reasonable amount of time, we will be using dried bowl blanks. We will also discuss various finishes to add some personalization to your bowl. Once finished, you will be able to enjoy your bowl for years to come. Note: This class utilizes Easy Wood Tools with carbide cutters. If you prefer classic High Speed Steel (HSS) tools, bring your own or inquire within when attending class. This class will cover shop safety and the proper use of a lathe by making a basic bowl from start to finish. In addition to the lathe, we will also use the bandsaw to prepare your bowl blank. To minimize drying times so that the student can finish their bowl in a reasonable amount of time, we will be using dried bowl blanks. We will also discuss various finishes to add some personalization to your bowl. Once finished, you will be able to enjoy your bowl for years to come. As with any class here at Woodcraft of Lexington, personal safety will be foremost. In addition to normal shop safety procedures, class attendance will be limited to promote social distancing. The shop equipment will be sanitized prior to, and upon completion of each class. Masks will be required by all people, including the instructors. If you forget to bring a mask, we have extras free of charge.

Build a Shaker Style Table

If you are looking to take your woodworking to the next level, then this is it! In this one day course, Tyler will walk you through building a table in the popular shaker style. Tools and materials are all provided - including use of the table saw, band saw, jointer, and other shop accessories. At the end of the day, you will have a beautiful table to accent any area of your home for years to come.

Acrylic Pen Turning

Saturday, January 11, 12 PM - 5 PM

This is a great introduction to turning acrylic or resin on a lathe, with the end product being a pen to keep that you made yourself from start to finish. Previous turning or woodworking experience is helpful but definitely not required. We cover the basics of safety, the parts of a lathe, lathe tools, and accessories, as well as everything you need to start making acrylic or resin pens, bottle stoppers, Christmas ornaments, and other turned creations! During the five hour class, students in the class will learn how to select and cut pen blanks, drill and mount the blanks on the lathe, turn the pen barrels, wet sand, and assemble a pen. And the skills learned in this class will easily transfer to other spindle turning classes or projects.

Wood and Epoxy Cheese Board

In this two-day class, students will learn a variety of skills while creating their own beach themed board! It can be used as a charcuterie board, cheese board, or art for display! In the first workshop, Josh will teach basics of epoxy, and students will learn mixing/pouring skills and design techniques. During the second workshop, students will learn how to cut and finish their cured product. The instructor will walk students through shaping, planing, sanding and polishing their artwork from start to finish.

Foredom Experience with Eric Georges

This inclusive woodworking class, led by craftsman Eric Gorges, welcomes both beginners and experienced carvers to create a beautiful spoon using the Foredom power carving tool and Kutzall burrs. Eric starts with an introduction to basic tool handling and safety, making the class accessible for those new to woodworking. More advanced carvers are encouraged to explore additional techniques and customize their spoons with intricate details. Under Eric’s guidance, participants will learn to efficiently shape their wooden blocks into custom spoons, with the Kutzall burrs offering control and creativity. The flexible nature of the Foredom tool makes it perfect for precise work as well as more expressive carving styles. By the end of the class, students of all levels will have gained new skills and carved their own unique spoon to take home.
