When cutting dovetails, standard bench vises generally don’t fit the bill. Holding wide stock for work on the ends (like when cutting dovetails) is where the Moxon vise excels. In this class, we’ll build our own Moxon vises using WoodRiver hardware following the plans laid out by instructor Albert Kleine in the cover project of Popular Woodworking #283. In addition to ensuring that the vises function as intended, we’ll spend a good amount of time cutting and shaping profiles — ogees, lambs tongues, and chamfers — to make our vises as beautiful as they are useful.

Intro to Double-Bevel Marquetry
with Albert Kleine
Part 1: Sunday, February 22, 2026, 1 PM - 5 PM
Part 2: Sunday, March 1, 2026, 1 PM - 5 PM
Join master craftsman and book author, Albert Kleine, for this introductory course in marquetry, the practice of inlaying wood veneers to create images. It emphasizes traditional double-bevel methods using only hand tools. The first session covers theory and process, including geometry, tools, and sawing technique. By the end, you’ll be able to inlay veneer into a backer – foundational for marquetry. In the second session, you’ll apply your skills to create a simple leaf design. Advanced techniques, such as layering, grain orientation, sand-shading, and managing oxidation and shrinkage, will also be discussed to enhance your marquetry skills. This course is beginner-friendly, equipping you with essential techniques for more complex projects. Some woodworking experience is helpful but not required; all skill levels are welcome!
