The Work Sharp 3000 wood tool sharpener let's you monitor stock removal from above with the "see-through" wheel while a large port provides access from underneath. This works exceptionally well for sharpening large turning tools quickly and efficiently while also providing a means to sharpen and hone carving tools, especially the smaller profiles that require a more delicate touch. This is an air cooled, dry sharpening system that uses maintenance free 150mm tempered glass wheels to which you adhere PSA abrasives. Slotted "see-through" wheel allows for fast and precise sharpening of carving and lathe tools. The precise and repeatable sharpening port enables sharpening of 20, 25, 30, and 35 degree angle chisels and plane irons up to 2" wide. No jigs are needed; just select angle and sharpen. Lapping abrasive in the sharpening port increases burr removal and speeds sharpening. The rigid bevel angle settings and skew cam provide precise positioning of the sharpening port. Bevel and skew geometry are not affected by wheel diameter, chisel size, or complex user setup. Forced air-cooling and the sharpening port heat sink allow for higher material removal rates without affecting the steel temper. It allows for quick reshaping of a new or damaged chisel, and fast honing of a micro bevel. The precise bevel angles are set in the sharpening port, not in a fixture or jig, so switching between angles is simple and fast. No re-calibration is required for changing wheel diameter or tool size. Coarse grind for rapid shaping and then micro-fine hone all in one port. The Work Sharp 3000 comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and the following accessories: 2 tempered float glass wheels, a "see-through" slotted wheel, top tool rest, crepe stick, and PSA abrasive kit. It has a 110V, 1/5 hp motor, 580 rpm (gear reduced), and weighs 16 lbs.

    worth every penny

I was introduced to the WorkSharp 3000 by a professional furniture maker who has 40-50 years experience. He told me it would be a purchase I wouldn't regret. Man was he right. Minimal time to set up the sharpener, quick work of the most damaged blades and scary sharp results. I'll be recommending this to every woodworker I know!

    Great sharpener for the woodworker

I bought this tool primaraily to sharpen corrugated knives for my molding machine. Those knives are sharpened on the flat (not the profile)and doing this by hand on a piece of granite and sandpaper takes a unbelievable amount of time. This tool really speeds the process up. It is fantastic for sharpening chisels and plane irons. Precise, perfectly sharpened edges that are as good as a professional sharpening service.

    Great Product, lots of flexibility

This is a great unit to get started with sharpening. My primary use is for sharpening turning tools. With the added tool bar and Tormek jigs my bowl gouges have never been so sharp. Versatile for lots of things. Some limitations - size and some angles can be tough to cut. Overall very happy with this purchase

    Excellent for keeping tools sharp.

I use this to keep my cutting tools sharp. I believe that the sharper the tool is the safer it is to use. Dull tools are an accident waiting to happen.

sorry I waited so long to get one

Great addition to the shop. The slotted disks are good for finishing and it's easy enough to make your own set up on the glass wheels.

    Does a nice job

The Worksharp is easy to use and does a great job sharpening chisels. Other tools can be sharpened on it using its tool rest, but it's not nearly as easy without additional jigs and accessories. I really like that it uses standard PSA sanding discs that can be picked up anywhere. If it were more versatile out of the box I would have given it 5 stars.

    Fast sharpening, some issues...

I was very pleased with the WorkSharp 3000 with honing the bevel of a chisel, however I had quite a few issues with flattening the backs of smaller chisels. Even flattening the back of a plane iron, I had inconsistent results unless I started the machine after I placed the plane iron on the wheel and turned the machine off before I removed the plane iron. I have reverted back to using my sharpening stones for plane irons and the backs of the chisels, but am using the WS3000 for the chisel bevel - which works great.

    Work Sharp 3000

Great product! didnt realize how far off from 90 the angles were on my chisel until i threw them on here! took maybe 20 minutes and had them all sharpened! puts a really nice edge in it, real sharp. Great customer service from woodcraft too! one of the little rubber feet werent on it when i got it, callerd them, i was on the phone for 2 minutes and 38 seconds with them, and got off and had an email saying they were sending it to me, free of charge, and i got it three days later. Cannot complain! Great service, great product.

    Works for me

Just got it. Busy and don't take the time to fool around with wet stones for my woodworking tools. This works for me. First time I've had really sharp chisels in years. Forgot what it's like. Sharpened six chisels and three plane irons in 20 minutes. I bought the guide table for it, I'm sure that's a plus. Don't know about getting more abrasives, etc. The angle is a little off in the guide chute, so I'll have to adjust that someday, when I get the time for it. Read the book before you waste abrasives.

    Truly Amazing Product

I was a bit skeptical about purchasing this system, I have a bad experience with their Drill Doctor products and really thought long and hard about spending 200 on a system that might not only waste my $$$ but more importantly my time...... Boy do I regret not buying this sooner. I was tired of spending 7-9$ each on sharpening my bench chisels and only getting "utility sharp" and you know, I was about to buy the stones ,and start sharpening that way. I am glad to report that with very little practice, in about 2 hours, I sharpened about 50 chisels of all sizes to a perfection that I have never before experienced. Every professional woodworker must, and I mean MUST own this tool. It's quality is surpassed only by it's ease of use...... Sure I could have spent a lot less and perhaps gotten the same results (after what I'm told is a huge learning curve), but I am sure in the end I would have sprung for the WS3000 anyways. Dad always told me "The Cheap Person Always Pays Twice" Thanks! "Yankee" Mike

    Good investment.

Fantastic for putting an ultra sharp edge on chisels... and relative to other methods its quick and accurate! I can tune up my chisels in a few minutes so they're always sharp! Good investment.

Absolutely the best investment I've made

despite the cost of this tool... I had enough chisels that needed sharpening stacked up, so I got it. I haven't changed any of the abrasive discs, but am on about my 30th chisel. I will caution those who get this to keep the pads clean with the supplied rubber block (I have a bigger one I use on my belt sander). Keeping them clean will prolong the life of each pad. I love love love the ability to see the edge being sharpened. I was able to hone my gouges well... a friend's gouges as precisely as required. I can see where having a shaky hand would cause problems... the tool rest under is a bit cumbersome, and I usually just hold my chisels to the edge by hand with a moderate amount of pressure. I've also clamped this to a small piece of plywood that I clamp to my bench when I need to mount it solid. The only real major drawback to me is the amount of metal dust produced (kind of the point though). I put a rare earth magnet at the back to help cut down on that and keep it vacuumed up as well. It's really only an issue with the most aggressive pads. The performance of this tool negates all the cons I put in my review... I just want to provide an informed review. I absolutely love this thing! I would recommend this to a friend, but due to the cost, they just bring me all their chisels to sharpen!

    Great tool to start sharpening

This machine works great. I have never sharpened a chisel before, I always asked my brother to do it, and I was able to restore a beat up old chisel in minutes. The primary con I noticed is that the machine is lightweight - which is nice in most respects - but when sharpening, it moves around unless clamped or fastened. The accessories are a little pricey too, but I still have my eye on the wide blade attachment.

    Great way to sharpen

I've tried waterstones, sandpaper on glass, they all work OK, but the Work Sharp is quick and easy. I sharpened all of my chisels, a couple of plane blades and even a draw knife with excellent results.

Easy Perfect Edge ... given time.

This tool works wonders on putting a sharp edge on things. However if you are going to change the PRIMARY BEVEL angle on anything, it's gonna take a little while.

Best sharpening tool I have ever used

I would like to see an attachment for sharpening planer blades. I have never had sharper chisels and plane irons, nor have I sharpened a blade so easily.

easiest & most accurate way to sharpen

The most foolproof way to get a truely sharp tool and the easiest way to maintain the correct bevel. The only minor problem, if you can call it that, is: After prolonged use the knob that holds the disks on gets hard to loosen.

Works as advertised, but is that enough?

Sharpening is a wide open subject. I thought this would help me with the majority of my sharpening needs, but it comes up short here and there. For smaller chisels, the holder simply will not hold the blade perpindicular to the wheel. Larger blades are difficult to align even with the attachment. The pads are not cheap. I am finding that a hollow ground is important to me and my tools. I have come full circle and now get better results and quicker results with water stones. It was simply a matter of learning how to sharpen. The Worksharp seemed to offer a modern easy way out, but it really doesn't. Perhaps the more expensive Tormak is truly the out of the box solution, but at twice the price.

I have used many different sharpening systems in the past but this is hands down the best. I highly recommend this product.

    GREAT TOOL FOR THE MONEY

I like the repeatibility of the bevel angle and the tool does everything from light grinding to fine honing.

    Work Sharp 3000 Delivers

Once the tool is set up - which consists of applying the supplied abrasives to the glass discs - sharpening chisels and planes is straightforward. Even if you chose the wrong pre-set for the chisel angle, which I did, recovery is easy. I turned snaggle-toothed former-chisels back into razor-sharp woodworking tools in minutes. In my view, any tool where you forget how much you spent the first time you use the tool is worthy. This tool is worthy.
