Not worth it
I bought this item because I thought it'd be a quick, effective, and no brainer way to get a card scraper sharp. It's certainly quick, but not very effective. It does establish a burr, but not nearly as well as if I just used my own burnisher, file and wood block set up. This is a classic case of buying a jig that isn't necessary. Watch a few videos on sharpening a card scraper the old fashioned way and take a few minutes to practice the technique. Pretty soon you'll realize that you can actually do it faster and better than using this jig.

I'd buy it again

Great tool.Does just what it says.
I've read a hundred reviews, this is the first I have written.Just set up and used the scraper sharping system and the Veritas scraper holder.I have wanted to use a scraper for years but was intimidated by the sharpening involved.Bottom line:Buy both these tools right now and enter a new world of wood working. Pricey? Yes.Can you do it with a vise and a file? Sure, after a couple of years of practice.I have owned and used some of the best power tools and know cheap from quality. These two are worth the price. The sharpening system gave me an edge that curled shavings from the first try. The Veritas blade holder was the second surprise. It had been reviewed as nice but not really needed.I figured go for the whole thing and give myself every advantage.Tried the scraper with and without the holder. When you see the control it gives you will forget the price at once! How many tines has that happened in your life? Both the sharpener and the holder seem expensive but when you see what they will do for you, lets say vrs the cost of a good sander(and vac.)then things start to come into perspective.Noise and dust aside, the scraper leaves a better finish in half the tine and makes you feel like one of those guys in the better wood working mags. How much is that worth? Everything they say about scraping is true, and these two tools make it happen.I realize I sound like one of those characters I always laughed at in these reviews, but that is my experience with these tools and I am writing this for someone like me who is put off by the price, but is willing to take a chance with the right encouragement. In today's economy value is most important, and the results these two tools give you for the investment is outstanding.

Makes the task easier
I used to clamp a file onto my bench to sharpen my scrapers. It was clumsy at best; hazardous at worst. The Woodsmith scraper sharpening system makes it easy, safe, reliable, and repeatable. I never knew how well a properly sharpened scraper could work. (The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because of the long thumbscrews needed to hold the file in place. It takes a lot of turning to get them set.)

Everything came as expected and on time.
I find items from Woodcrafters to be what they promis. Have been using them over 20 years and will again this week during sale.

needs work / development
the manufacturer needs to add a second burnishing pin. this may allow the user to do round/ curved scrapers; and it would over come a problem when using one burnishing pin-- it is really hard to work on each end of the scraper; consequently the scraper could creat some nasty tearouts on the wood. Finally I think that in addition to adding a way to work on curved scrapers, the manual needs to be in different languages, engish, spanish and french... Look at the manual for Dremel's accesory products ie. router table, drill press.

Good bang for the buck
It is a great way to start using scrapers instead of sanding. Give a smoother finish.
-
a great time saver just a good tool
a great invention. saves me alot of time having to do this chore by hand.i can sharpen and burr a scraper in about a minute.
-
well made but expensive
Although this is well made it is an expensive item when you consider all you need is a file, burnisher and a vise to do the same job.

Made short work of sharpening
This tool is very effective at turning a burr on all types of scrapers. I just started using scrapers and had a rough time getting the correct burr on them. No now!
