    Nice, but too much racking.

I bought this to replace a smaller vise that I had on my bench. I thought this would be an improvement. In some ways it is. The handle is bigger and that helps. But there is so much racking.

Wood Jaw Rocks on Vise Face

The screw holes on the face of the vise intended for you to mount a wooden jaw are all in one horizonal line. This allows the wooden jaw to rock when clamping. A larger face on the metal jaw would allow multiple rows of screws and a more secure mount

Hold things in a vise-like manner

It doesn't come with hardware, a mounting template, or anything other than exactly what's pictured...and enough machine grease to get Patton, Rommel, and the SAS through the North Africa campaign. Once everything assembled, its everything you could want from a vise.

    Vise lacks screws

Vise lacks bolts and or screws needed to attach unit to work bench. I am going to attach the back brace with four 1/4" x 3" lag bolts to my bench top. Use washers so the bolt does not pull through if you have a plywood top. I will add 1-1/2" piece of wood under my 3/4" plywood top for added support and use a forstner bit to make the bolt head flush on the work area. Assuming you use a 1" piece of wood for the face of the vise, you will need four #12 1" flat head screws. You will also need to order the 17E46 small vise handle or equivalent. Overall, unit looks very solid and the price compared to other vendors a very good buy.

    Simple, sturdy straightforward works.

The part comes generously coated in machine oil to protect it from rust. The screw was slightly curved but it doesn't affect operation at all. Certainly not worth me removing it. I was going to use this in a 26" wide tail vise but have decided to upgrade to it's larger sibling for that and switch this one to a shoulder vise. You will need a pair of #14 flush mount screws and 4 more similarly sized lag bolts to fully install the unit. Once in it's rock solid. It would be nice to have mounting templates included.

Bought this and the larger model

Yeah, It's made in China but it is well made and is very smooth in it's operation. It is fairly easy to mount. A great vise for the price.
