The Perfect Tool For My Project

I had a project coming up of building a curved plywood form for a concrete retaining wall that would need to follow a curved concrete footing that was already poured. The wall footing, about 75' long, was mostly straight but it had a curve, about 8 feet long, on one end. I had been wondering about the best way to easily and accurately implement the curved wooden form wall when I happened upon the Wood River Curve Template on the Woodcraft website. Immediately it occurred to me that this could be the perfect tool to make the curved wall that would follow the footing contour. In practice the curve template proved it's worth and much more by making it possible to accurately build curved plywood forms for the purpose of filling with pumped concrete. I used my jigsaw to make curved 2x4s by cutting 3/4" plywood and gluing two of them together to make custom curved 2x4s for the horizontal bottom and top chords. Straight 2x4s were nailed vertically onto and between the curved "2x4s the The curved plywood "skins" were made by gluing and nailing three 1/4" plywood layers that followed the curvature of the custom curved plywood "2x4s. The wooden form part of the project, a stud and waler form plywood system using snap ties, turned out great. The 107" curve template was the perfect tool for building the curved wall portion of the forms.
