Excellent right out of the box
Treated myself to a new tool for Christmas. I've never used a spokeshave before, but thought I'd add it to my collection so I'd have it when I needed it. The packaging was great as it came in a padded wooden box, polish and finish also met expectations at this price point. Opened the blade, checked the back, where I could see very minor scratchmarks and the bevel appeared to be polished nicely. Shaved arm hair effortlessly straight out of the box. Installed the blade, set the depth following several YouTube video recommendations. WOW, was I amazed. 1/128th shavings on the first pass on a 3/4 in piece of scrap poplar leaving it glass smooth. I've read that a spokeshave can be either your favorite go-to or you hate them. Gotta say, I'll be finding a reason to use it.
