Hot New Tools: Issue 33
From the first time woodworkers tried sandpaper-on-glass sharpening, they’ve wrestled with the fact that most abrasives can’t stand up long against steel. The Work Sharp’s plate and guide design accelerates the effect. The consistent touch point quickly wears away a ring of abrasive, especially when using the coarsest grits. Worn paper encourages the user to press harder, which doesn’t make sharpening any faster and overtaxes the machine.

Very nice
very pleased with this. I was researching rasps and came across the video on these Iwasaki "files". I ordered a set of the half-round for shaping which I haven't used yet, but ordered one flat file. It turns out, I'm using the flat one a lot. Its good for smoothing edges of boards, great for smoothing rough end grain of wood before further sanding. My only regret on the flat file is I would like a longer one. the 150 mm file has 5.5 inches of useable file. I plan on getting the extra fine version in the longer size.
