Nice pen
I bought this pen 18 months ago at the store in Austin for my wife (she wanted it). I was new to woodturning and wasn't sure about the tendon part. Found it in my desk last week and decided to make it for her. It was much easier to make than I thought it would be. I used cocobolo and it came out beautiful. I have read the other reviews and see where there might be a problem with assembly but I didn't have any. I laid all the parts out per instructions, made sure tubes were clear and assembled. Only negative is the blue ink but will buy a black refill. Have never had a fountain pen, so not sure about the refillable part. The only other slight negative is the bushings...how many people can tell difference between .447 bushing and .444 bushing (so close it isn't even funny..lol). Worth the money...wife loves the pen. Will make more to sell. I usually sell bullet pens for a good profit, this item will compliment them well.

Nice finish hard to assemble
I agree with others that installing the Lower Barrel Finial took way too much force. I had to use a vise to drive it home and I was worried I would break something. Everything else fit perfect. So I would suggest to test the fit and maybe use some very fine sandpaper and a lite touch to reduce the diameter. A looser fit with glue is much better.

Decent Fountain Pen
I made this product about 3 months ago and have used it daily ever since - primarily for journaling and note taking. The blue ink cartridge that comes with it is not very good, but if you use the refillable ink reservoir, you can fill it with your own quality ink. The best thing about this is probably its elegant look. This pen looks fantastic. I get comments on it all of the time. I have actually started selling some of them to friends and classmates. (To make a very nice looking pen, I would suggest using either Snakeskin or Ebony Macassar wood. Both of which have a natural dark color and fantastic grain.) The major downside of this pen is the step in which one adds the lower barrel finial directly to a threaded reducer. The final look is great, but because of the difficulty of adding this, it is easily possible for the piece to be added in a way that is not straight. It also takes a massive amount of force to get it in; I have had to use a hammer, with a towel between, to actually get it in. I learned the hard way how to do this step, too. The first pen that I had, I put the threaded reducer on the wood blank first, which meant that I had to fit the lower barrel finial on afterwards, and because it took so much force, it actually made a small crack in the wood of the barrel! The second time, I simply put the lower barrel finial into the threaded reducer before attaching it to the pen blank. Massive Advice: Attach Lower Barrel Finial to threaded reducer before attaching the threaded reducer to the pen blank!

Decent but could be better
This is a great kit but for one thing. The rear end of the kit, the black painted long tube that gets inserted into the threads of the tube part is a pain to get in. So much so that I was scared to push it in. They have you putting a non threaded part into a threaded part and the fit is SUPER tight. if it's cocked in any way it goes in at an angle and you have to start over. The kit recommends glue here but I would be very surprised to see that come out cause it is TIGHT. It's not an expensive kit for sure and I believe the maker must do this to save having to mill one end with threads and the other not. Nice kit otherwise.

Hard to assemble!
I liked how easy it was to turn the pen, but when it came to putting it together it was very difficult! The clip was hard to install because it doesn't fit. Then the kit requires you to PRESS! the final into a threaded end. This required a lot of pressure to even get it together and it ended up breaking my pen press. I love Woodcraft and their products but this one could use a little work.

Disaster
This pen is fine, until you try to use it. Then, the ink doesn't come out. 10 minutes later, when it finally comes out, its spotty, and requires a great amount of pressure to use. This is probably one of the worst writing instruments I have ever had the misfortune of using, and I would not recommend it to anybody, except for decorative purposes. Go buy one of the rollerball kits, they work much better.

A classic reborn!
I made 2 of these for my college son (who loves to write with a fountain pen), and have now made several others by request for teachers et al., and kept one for myself with a slight "imperfection" in the turning. Ink can be found online.

Nice pen, but could be improved
Confortable pen to hold and the balance is nice. Easy pen to turn, but the design of two components made the fit-up and the assembly more difficult than it should have been. The clip's mounting ring did not fit around the brass clip bushing. If the clip mounting ring was designed like the European pen, which is centered and sized by the threads of the top finial, the fit and assembly would be much better. Rather than pressing the lower barrel finial into the threaded reducer, which was difficult to align and press, the lower finial should be threaded into the existing internal threads of the reducer.

i was kind of disappointed
i figured for the price it would be a decent kit but was kind of disappointed. I expected more precise fits. All in all it is ok. The good thing about the kit is if you want you can swap fountain pen and rollerball tips in minutes with no other modifications, great feature for picky customers. I would recommend this to a friend only after telling them this.
