I used this product for drilling holes in wood pieces that were too large to fit in the bench-top drill press I had on hand. Wasn't too impressed with the results. There's enough play between the plastic housing and the metal collar that straight holes are difficult to obtain. You're better off just gluing a two pieces of square wood at the ends and lining up the drill bit in the corner, which was what I ended up doing. Also, the waste you're drilling out has a tendency to travel up the bit and get wedged into the space between the bit and collar which can jam the collar against the bit making it difficult to remove. That only happened to me on the larger bore drill bits. Would not buy again or recommend.
Great tool for the money!
I was looking for a drill guide that could be used for wider surfaces than edge joinery, and this was ideal. I used this to put 3/8" diameter dowels in 3/4" oak (built a decorative rack with dowels for hanging small tools). Short of using an actual drill press, this economical device delievers the cleanest and most perpedicular drilling in an open flat surface I have ever seen or made. With the centering awl that establishes and maintains your mark and the transparent base, you can't miss. Unless you are really steady-handed, be sure to clamp it down.
Needs more guides
I was ready to buy until I saw there was not any guides for the sizes I need. They need to include 3/32, 1/8, and possibly a guide not drilled that you could put the in between sizes. Look like a very simple and good tool.
Great for threaded insert installs too
Great for drilling holes for threaded inserts and also for screwing them in straight. The T wrench they sell here will fit right in.
always had trouble getting straight holes.
[...]nice Drill Guide
I haven't used it yet, but it appears to be the ideal tool for small jobs.
This is just what I needed to do the job
I will be using this to make floating shelves in my house so I needed a guide to drill a straight hole in some barn wood that I have. I think this will work just fine for what I am doing.
Would not buy again
Bearing has enough slop in the plastic housing that a perpendicular hole is difficult to obtain.
Well designed and thought product
A good example that a good planned, well designed and manufactured product can also be affordable and simple to use.
Handy little tool
I was considering a small drill press.. but would only need it for one project.. And didn't trust my skills at making perfect 90 degree holes.. Found this to fit the bill.. saving money, which keeps the wife happy. The bushings are not a perfect fit.. I addressed this by using a small piece of paper around the inside.
i cann't drill anymore without !!
a great help by upgrading my airplane. modifications on my Zenair CH 601 XL Greetings from Belgium
Very handy guide
Just the ticket for drilling perpendicular holes through doors for door viewers, sex nuts, etc. I use the 3/16" bit with this guide, then redrill from both sides of the door with the appropriate sized bit for a perfect installation everytime.
