Great Dual Grit Sharpening Stone
I purchased this stone to maximize my limited budget and I feel it was a great purchase. My current chisels have already been flattened and tuned for initial use so this stone worked great for putting that razor's edge back in quick order. I did attempt to true up a new chisel just to see how long it would take and the grit on these stones is really to fine to start that process. All said, it took be about 30 minutes from unwrapped, 3/4" chisel to mirror polish. So, it can be done, but there are better things to do with your time. I also sharpened a block plane that has been rather abused in the past. It came back nicely in just a few minutes. Using water as the lubricant is definitely a good thing and the stone cleans up nicely with soap, water and an old toothbrush. The only thing I had issue with was it is a bit narrow for my block plane iron but I did use the extra-fine side to polish the back. Also, this stone doesn't come with a stand, so I have yet another project. Not much to hate about this stone given that it has two grits on one stone, it's perfect for tuning up knives and chisels. I'm going to grab the coarse and extra-coarse (DMT Dia-Sharp 6" x 2" Bench Stone, Coarse/extra Coarse) so I have a full set.
