Details

Big Leaf Maple Burl (Acer macrophyllum) has figure consisting of swirly, unpredictable grain patterns with light to dark variations of cream brown to dark brown color. Natural edges, bark inclusions and internal voids may be present and are not considered defects (in fact, they usually add character to a piece). Big leaf maple burl can be somewhat difficult to turn because of its unpredictable grain. It does, however, polish very nicely. It can create interesting turnings such as pens, bottle stoppers, bowls and ornaments. It is also great to cut into slices for clock making, or thin slabs for beautiful box tops.

    50/50

I purchased two of these to do some turning. The first one I looked at looked beautiful and had a nice size and thickness to it. Can't wait to make something wonderful out of it. The second one has a huge knot that covers more than half of the piece and extends all the way through the entire thickness of the piece. I will have to cut more than half off to be able to use it for anything. Price was ok but i wish i would have gotten two nice workable pieces instead of one and a half
