Not as expected after first coat

I watched no less than four YouTubers (who had received a free sample) extol it’s virtues so I decided to give it a go to fill the grain on an ash toddler bed I was making to get a “glass smooth” finish for little hands. I applied over “weathered navy” stain. Everything went well on the flat square test piece, however I regretted my decision after the first coat on the final product. The edges had a quarter inch round-over. I applied using the bondo scraper everyone was using on he videos (perhaps using a cloth would have worked better). After it dried, any Aqua Coat material remaining required significant sanding to smooth it out, which resulted in quite a bit of sand-through on my nice blue stain even using 400 grit and 0000 steel wool. I gave it three stars because it was easy to work with and supposedly more safe than alternatives and I’ll chalk this up to my error in selecting this product but I’ll have to think long and hard about what I will use the rest of the tub on. As an aside, I did another test piece where I applied two coats with sanding in between BEFORE stain and this resulted in a very very light penetration of the stain, which wasn’t what I was looking for.

      Stuff works fantastic

I wanted to refinish my kitchen cabinets in our new place after I found out how much brand new ones would cost. I was hesitant about how they would turn out being a newbie to projects like this. I researched and reached out to some friends who gave me instructions on how to get them to look amazing. I was also concerned about chemicals since I have a one year old and another on the way. This product was suggested to me and I can't believe how easy it was to apply. It made them look like a professional did them and there was no odor at all. I had such a great experience I am looking for other projects to use it on.
