Amazakoue (Guibourtia ehie) is also called Shedua and Mozambique, typically depending on the location in West Africa where it was harvested. Its heartwood is yellow brown to dark brown with gray to almost black stripes, and its straight grain has an attractive figure. Sometimes it contains whitish deposits. Amazakoue polishes well, takes finish easily, and is a less expensive substitute for Indian Rosewood. It is used in guitar manufacturing, in the back sides of acoustic guitars. Native to Ghana.

    All cracked up

The wood had deep checks on both ends. The blank had been dipped in something, but there did not appear to be any wax on the ends. One top surface had checks the full length. I haven't turned the peice yet so I can't tell if the checks will turn off. I don't know if this is the nature of this wood or I got an unusual peice. I would buy this wood again, at a store where I could see it first.

    Great wood to turn

Turned a beautiful wood bowl as a gift for a family member.
