    Details

Aluminum Oxide Grinding Wheels are a giant step above the conventional gray, hard, slow cutting wheels which tend to burn tools as the grinding surface becomes dull and glazed. Made of granulated aluminum oxide with a vitrified white bond, they allow the grains of abrasive to wear off, thus providing a consistently fresh grinding surface. Sharpening is faster, with less danger of taking the temper out of the tool. This 8" diameter, 120-grit wheel comes with reducer bushings to fit 3/4" and 5/8" shafts. Also available in 6".

      Good Israeli Grinding Wheel

Wheel is well balanced and can be set to run "true". Oversized ID requires (comes with) a plastic telescoping adapter. No metal reducers seem to be available. Time will tell whether plastic adapter is sufficient. I would prefer a metal adapter/ hubs. Even better would be a 5/8" ID so no adapter would be necessary.

Plastic bushing unusable with 5/8" arbor

The plastic bushing is useless on anything other than 1" arbor. First time you run it up to speed, it will begin to wobble. So, for 5/8ths arbor, you'll need to order a steel bushing from [...] (part #8491A562), about $10 plus shipping. 1-star as sold for 5/8ths arbor, 4-stars with replacement steel bushing.

      worthless hub

the hub spacers are so soft and loose that they fall out after the first vibration test. do NOT buy this unless you have a 1" shaft.

      catalog description fooled me

It was far more aggressive then I thought it would be.I'm very good at sharpening but even with the lightest touch I would "burn" the very tip of my knives....see[@]

      Would not recommend

I purchased the wheel from Woodcraft to sharpen wood turning tools, however it was unuseable. The wheel wobbled so bad it could not be balanced. I called mfg. and they said to call place of purchase and they would send it to the mfg and then I would get a new one. I needed one then, not weeks later. Definitely will not buy another.
