    Go Slow, very slow

Blank #1 I was aggressive and it looked like it was snowing a fine powder until a dull tool caused a chip and the whole thing exploded. Blank #2 Separated between halves, stars on one side, stripes on the other. The white stripes separated from the red stripes and tested my new face shield. The star section held together fine. Blank #3 I used extremely light pressure and very sharp tools. It survived and looks amazing. Make sure you drill straight, or stay thick as the core is mostly white.

    Be Careful

Be advised this is two different sections glued together. If you are not very careful in turning it will break in the center and end up as another ceiling ornament.

    Nice colors but

Bought one for a gift after turning the blank I found that the blank had cracked and there was a red spot on one of the white stripes. The keychain came out ok otherwise and I will definitely try a few more.

    Read the instructions!!

Went through 4 of these blanks before I got one that worked. Definitely take light passes, go slow, but turn the speed up on the lathe. Fast turning and slow, light passes with very sharp tools, I recommend EasyWood tools, and I went ahead and turned the tips to a new part just to have the sharpest part possible.
