Great saw, terrible fence lock
This is a great saw with two exceptions. 1) the fence lock is absolutely terrible! the lever handle is made from a composite material and it flexes when pressure is applied to lock the fence therefore I am afraid to fully lock the fence for it might break, totally useless. Why couldn't Rikon just duplicate the fence from the 14" model? 2) Blade tracking, I removed the 1/4 stock blade and installed a 1/8 blade, could not get it to track and stay on the wheels. I ended up having to adjust the bottom wheel to get it to work (even though the sticker says to contact customer support first), a real pain in the butt and frustration, not what I would expect from the box. Over all once everything was adjusted it works great, except for the fence, fortunately i wont be using the fence much since I have a 14" to do work with a fence.

Great saw, horrible fence lock
This is a good little bandsaw with a horrible fence system. The locking mechanism is an engineering disaster that should never have gotten close to production. I hope Rikon re-engineers this fence as soon as possible and offers free replacements to everyone unlucky enough to have purchased a saw with the original. I also hope that Woodcraft will put pressure on Rikon to do right by its customers. If you are considering this saw do not buy one until it is shipped with a new fence design.

Better than expected
I went to my local store and picked up a 10-306 this week. I had read about the models available and felt that this was my best option. I have no other Rikon tools and have no experience with them. I followed the instruction manual and took my time making sure everything was adjusted as per the manual. It took some time but wasn't hard at all. When I finally tried it out I was immediately impressed. It is quiet, smooth and steady. I knew I was going to be resawing some 3" white oak so I put a more aggressive 1/2 inch blade. It cuts the thick hardwood much better than I expected. Everything seems to be very high quality and very well designed...except for the fence. Everything is so good I'm surprised they put such a cheap fence on this great saw. While it is usable I may look into upgrading the fence someday. But overall I am impressed with this saw.

One Major Design Flaw
The fence is terrible, the slightest pressure on the fence arm unlocks the friction lock. No amount of adjustment makes any difference. No after market alternatives are available. Everything else about this saw met my needs, but this was an unacceptable failure due to fundamentally bad design.

An Amazing Bandsaw
First things first, the staff at the Canonsburg Woodcraft store is amazing! They were so helpful with me getting this saw. The saw is the best bandsaw I have ever owned. I have had two prior to the Rikon 10-306 (different brands) and they all felt and sounded like they were held together by bubble gum. I do mostly small items so I do not need the big floor model bandsaw, this one is the perfect saw. The packaging was superb, everything was neatly placed in the box and there was no damage to the saw. There is minor assembly required (as expected) but this saw cuts straight and true. I did my first ever resaw immediately after setting it up and it cut perfectly. I resawed a 1/8" x 24" strip off of laminated Cypress and it cut it like butter. I love my Rikon! The saw is solid at around 77lbs and is built with superior material. It runs quiet and cuts true...I'm convinced. I am so impressed with it I will purchase other Rikon tools. I was saving for a belt sander and was undecided on what brand I wanted...problem solved!
