How to Make a Sweet Holiday Decoration

This festive wooden Kissmas Tree is the perfect holiday woodworking project for showcasing your favorite foil-wrapped chocolates. It would make a great holiday gift for the candy lover in your life and is sure to be an attention grabber during holiday parties! Best of all, it folds flat for easy storage!!

Just kidding, the best part is the candy.

Originally, this project was featured in Issue No.98 of Woodcraft Magazine, where you can also find an easy-to-build storage solution for your Kissmas Tree. Of course you could also leave the tree up year-round; no need to let your holiday gifts only be enjoyed for a few weeks.

We highly recommend using a drill press for this project. You’ll need to drill a holder for each piece of candy you want to display and keeping everything centered and appropriately spaced can be difficult by hand. The original article also provides instructions on building a handy little spacing block to assist you in aligning the many holders you will be drilling

The lighter-colored tree we built is made of beautiful Curly Mahogany and the darker tree is stunning Peruvian Walnut. We found this is also a great project for milling your own lumber from rough boards. The base components are all the same length and thickness, so you may find the process a good opportunity to become more familiar with your wood planer, jointer, and table saw. Bonus points if you stick to using hand planes and hand saws!

Overall, it's an easy project, but you’ll likely be in your shop for a while working on it. A great project for putting on some music and chilling in the shop. Although if our experiences are anything to go by, you’ll be getting plenty of requests to get back in your shop and build more Kissmas Trees. Since we first posted these on social media, we’ve had several friends and family asking that we make just a few more. So, these may do well at those holiday craft fairs!
