Woodcraft Magazine Announces Folio Award and Release of a 2nd Five Years CD

Woodcraft Magazine is marking two milestones as it begins its 12th year of publication: the receipt of a prestigious award and the release of a CD with the second five years of magazine content.

Tim Snyder, who took over as editor in chief on July 1, 2015, won an honorable mention Eddie Award in the 2015 Folio Magazine competition for “Making Good with Salvaged Wood,” his article published in the June/July  issue of Woodcraft Magazine. Awards are divided into four main categories: Eddies and Eddies Digital for the best in print and digital editorial and Ozzies and Ozzies Digital for the best in magazine and website design. The 300 judges screened 2,800 entries into a pool of 1,000 finalists, with 250 awards given out in 33 categories.

“The judges look for the most compelling journalism in the category the entry is nominated. This includes the form (blog, essay, photography, design, etc.), the voice, the creativity, the author’s expertise, the relevance and value to the market, the impact if measurable, and the effectiveness of the piece in the context of the mission statement,” Tony Silber, Folio vice president, said. “Our judges are the most accomplished editors and designers in the magazine-media industry, and our winners are without a doubt the best practitioners at their craft in the world.”

Before taking over direction of Woodcraft Magazine when Jim Harrold retired as editor, Snyder served as executive editor of American Woodworker and Fine Homebuilding magazines, as a book division editor at the Taunton Press, and as co-author with Norm Abrams of two New Yankee Workshop books. Recently he built a reputation as a freelance writer for national home improvement and home repair franchises such as DrEnergySaver.com, ContractorNation.com, and BasementSystems.com.

According to the Folio website, Folio is dedicated to providing magazine publishing professionals with the news, insights, and best practices to keep them in tune with today’s media industry trends through a wide range of resources, including its website, newsletters, Folio: magazine, awards programs, webinars, conferences and networking events.

“Congratulations to Tim. His award reflects the high quality content that has been the hallmark of Woodcraft Magazine over the years,” publisher Gary Lombard said.

The Second 5 Years on CD

“We are excited to have Volume 2: the 2nd 5 Years of Woodcraft Magazine content now available in CD format,” Snyder said. “This jam-packed CD includes over 100 projects, from home accessories to large furniture projects to shop plans, all fully dimensioned and supported by illustrations, how-to photos, and cut lists from issues 32-61.
