Customer Spotlight

Bill Cunningham

Helena, OH

Bill Cunningham came in to the store before Christmas with one of his projects and created a lot of excitement for a young boy – and a lot of enthusiasm from other woodworkers!  We were able to convince him to share his talents with all of our customers.  And, in talking to Bill, he agreed to let us put the spotlight on him and his talents.

Bill, a metal machinist for 43 years, has been woodworking for more than 40 years.  He began whittling as a youth and later decided to build a 3-mast schooner (Cutty Sark) with only a picture as a reference.  He built it so that the side of the ship was open to display rooms, beds, and life on the seas.

Bill’s first workshop had only a table saw, scroll saw, Dremel sander, and a few files.  He says it’s expanded over the years to including nearly any tool he might need for his models, furniture, gazebo, turning pens, and other projects he decides to work on.

After that first project, Bill expanded into building radio controlled airplanes and items for his home, family, and friends.  He has donated a number of projects for fund raisers with one of his projects, a 1930 Dusenburg, raising over $2700.  Be sure to stop in Woodcraft soon to see Bill’s two trains on display.  One of the trains received Best of Show at the Sandusky County Show.  He also had a rocking horse receive the same award.

Bill’s suggestions to budding woodworkers:

o             Look for contrast in woods and used them to your advantage.

o             Look for scrap wood to use; you will be amazed at what can be recycled.

o             Don’t be afraid to try something.

o             Have patience!

E-Newsletter News

At this time we do not have a target date by when the e-Newsletter will be available for us to include all the information and news we have in the past.  In the meantime we are looking at alternate ways to get our product information, manager specials, Customer Spotlights, woodworking tips, and other articles out to our e-mail customers.

John & Carroll Nystrom

Owners/Managers

We have received thank you notes from both of the agencies you donated your wooden toys to at Christmas.  Both groups said that, even though everyone is hit by the challenges of the tough economy, this year was more successful than they expected.

We also received a thank you from Captain Lopes, Area Coordinator of The Salvation Army, for the monetary donation to their food outreach program.  That donation came from the pennies you donated as “votes” for your favorite toy.

We, at Woodcraft, send our own thanks to each of you for your time, effort, and sharing of your talents by building and donating the toys.  YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE in many children’s lives this year!  Thank you!

Carve-Along

Thursday mornings:  9am to 12 noon

New!  Thursday evenings:  5:30-8:00pm

We have a very dedicated group of Carve-Along participants who meet every week, share their love of carving, “talk shop” with anyone stopping by, or just chat with those who might be interested in learning to carve.

Anyone is welcome to join.  There is no cost to participate in this activity.  We are, however, accepting donations and the proceeds go to a charitable organization identified by the Carve-Along group.  Organizations they have supported include:  Ronald McDonald House, Wags & Wheels, the American Cancer Society, and the NW Ohio Hemophilia Foundation.

The evening group is being co-sponsored by e Maumee Bay Carvers.  The focus of both groups is to mentor, share the love of carving, and learn tips and tricks from your peers.

Join either group!  The coffee is always hot and the creativity is always flowing!

Anyone who visits our store is amazed at the artwork on display from our customers.  The items that have been on exhibit have been beautiful and appreciated by everyone!  Our thanks to all our customers who are so talented and willing to share their beautiful work!   Be sure to visit our Gallery at the end of this website to view what our customers are working on.

Go Green!

You will notice that Toledo’s Woodcraft is doing their part to help the area and our nation reduce waste and help recycle.  We have switched to paper bags (recyclable plastic as back-up only), classroom “waste” and small pieces wood are given away, we re-use our shipping boxes and plastic bags, soft drink cans are put in recycling bins, we cut our posters into scrap notepaper, and much more!

Thank you for visiting our Website.  We look forward to seeing you in our store again!
