No experience is required for this class. This is a class for all turners with or without previous woodturning experience. Everything for the class will be provided, including sharpening equipment and tools to practice your sharpening on. You are encouraged to bring your own tools so you can practice sharpening them, but it is not a requirement. Mark Will Cover: Types of sharpening systems available. Types of grinding wheels available. Setup of the Oneway sharpening system for sharpening with a jig and for sharpening with a platform Honing tools Sharpening of for a variety of turning tools including various grinds for spindle roughing gouges, spindle gouges, bowl gouges, detail gouges, skews, scrapers, thread chasers, and custom turning tools. Mark will tell you how to determine when your tools need sharpening, and he can help you decide which grind you want for your tools. He will help you achieve that grind during the class. We will discuss ways to make sharpening repeatable so that you are not overgrinding your tools
No experience is required for this class. This class is for new turners, or people who are interested in woodturning, but have no knowledge or experience. Mark will cover: How to get wood for turning, properties of wood and grain orientation while turning, preparation of wood for storage and drying. Basic woodturning tools, Gouges, Skews, Scrapers, Parting Tools. Conventional tools and turning tools with carbide inserts (This class uses conventional woodturning tools). Basic tool sharpening for spindle gouges and spindle roughing gouges. Basic operation of the lathe, including an explanation of the parts of the lathe, work holding on the lathe, and lathe maintenance. Woodturning safety, including eye and face protection, inspection of the lathe and wood before turning, safe turning speeds for varying projects. We will make a bead and cove stick for practice, and a wood scoop or a wood vegetable peeler that you will take home. All wood, tools and turning kits for the peeler or scoop will be provided. However, you may bring your own tools to the class if you have them
Learn the techniques of bowl making from master Mark Huber. Some woodturning experience preferred but not required.
