HANDS-ON. Paul DeMars will teach this dynamic and fundamental, "3-session", class for all beginning turners. Session #1: Spindle Turning. This class is geared to help you get started on the lathe. Tool selection, handling, safety and machine basics will be covered. You will learn how to make cuts to produce beads, coves and other basic spindle shapes. Session #2: Bowl Turning/Face Grain. Perfect your basic skills by learning to turn a wooden bowl. Face plate turning, tool selection, techniques, sanding and finishing will be covered. Session #3: Bowl Turning/End- Grain. Learn to turn another style of bowl by it's end-grain. End-grain bowls are very different than face-grain bowls and will allow you to expand your turning skills. HANDS-ON. TURN BEADS AND COVES. Our bowl turning instructor, Michael Boyle, has come up with a new and awesome class that will help you learn the proper way to turn Beads and Coves. You will turn a Shop Mallet. Beads and Coves are the two fundamental designs used in all forms of turning. They are used to decorate all types of woodworking projects like bowls, candlesticks, tools handles and even finials. A finial can dress up the lid of a turned bowl or a lidded box. Students will learn turning techniques, tool selection, wood selection and finishing details. Traditional tools are recommended to cut the fine details but, carbide tools are welcome. Just be aware that carbide tools may not give you the fine details needed to make your design extra sharp. Class size is limited to only 4 students so, SIGN-UP A.S.A.P.
