In this Lecture/Demo, students will learn how to build first-class looking cabinets for the kitchen, laundry room, bathroom or workshop. Learn simple "old world" finishing from a student of Fine Woodworking's contributing editor and woodworking master, Tage Frid. This class will teach the four finishes that will easily work for the home shop. Demos will show how to prepare the wood for finishing, using everything from the thickness planer, to cabinet scraper, to the proper way to use sandpaper. Square Board Fundamentals

Thursday, August 1, 6 PM - 10 PM

HANDS-ON. Got rough boards? Want to learn the simple steps needed to machine that board square, flat and the correct thickness to build something? Then this is the perfect hands-on class for you. Howard will teach the basics of wood technology and stock preparation. This fun, quick class will cover the use of the table saw, jointer and thickness planer. Students will also learn which side of the board should be used for the outside of the project and learn how to glue up a panel without it cupping. Basic Woodworking

You will learn how to set alignment and use the chop saw, table saw, jointer, planner, band saw, router table and a stationary sander. Safety will be emphasized with each machine. Basic Turning

Part 1: Monday, August 5, 6 PM - 10 PM

HANDS-ON. Paul DeMars will teach this dynamic and fundamental, "3-session", class for all beginning turners. Session #1: Spindle Turning. This class is geared to help you get started on the lathe. Tool selection, handling, safety and machine basics will be covered. You will learn how to make cuts to produce beads, coves and other basic spindle shapes. Session #2: Bowl Turning/Face Grain. Perfect your basic skills by learning to turn a wooden bowl. Face plate turning, tool selection, techniques, sanding and finishing will be covered. Session #3: Bowl Turning/End- Grain. Learn to turn another style of bowl by it's end-grain. End-grain bowls are very different than face-grain bowls and will allow you to expand your turning skills. Paul is a great teacher and will provide each student with hands-on skills that will last a lifetime.

Basic Pen Turning Class

HANDS-ON. 14 Years and older, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We have a new Pen Instructor! Join Chuck Silber as he brings the world of pen turning to life. Pen turning on the lathe is a great hobby that can also make extra money. Chuck has a great hands-on approach to teaching and will show students all the steps of how to set up your lathe with the right mandrel and bushings for easy pen turning with great results. You will leave the class with a top notch looking pen and the skills needed to make many more.

Build A Spline Corner Keepsake Box

Sunday, August 11, 9 AM - 6 PM

HANDS-ON. Mark Seay has come up with a great Table Saw Box Class. Mark is a wonderful teacher and his hands-on style of teaching really helps everyone learn about "how" to do woodworking! Students will make a small Keepsake Box from two contrasting woods on the table saw. The little box will have spline cut corners with contrasting wood splines to give it strength. The contrasting splines will give the box an extra sharp look. This is a really great looking little box and would make a wonderful gift for that someone special.

Build An End-Grain Cutting Board

HANDS-ON. We have a GREAT KITCHEN CLASS from Doug Jones. Students will build, over the three nights, an End-Grain style Cutting Board from two contrasting types of wood. This 12" X 18" Cutting Board will be constructed from "End-Grain", not the Long-Grain of the boards. This traditional method of building a Cutting Board makes it VERY DURABLE. It will takes cuts from a knife and not show any damage for many years to come. Doug is a great woodworker and his hands-on approach to teaching will help you learn all the tricks for End-Grain cutting and glue-up. HANDS-ON. PLEASE NO BEGINNERS. BASIC TURNING SKILLS NEEDED. We have a Great Turning Class for anyone interested in learning how to turn a bowl. Michael will provide hands-on teaching as each students turns a medium-size bowl about 5-6 inches in diameter. Students will learn how to mount a bowl blank to the lathe using several different methods and which tools to use and how to use them to make clean efficient cuts. This class also will cover the various types of finish, including oils, friction polish and even just buffing with wax. This will be a very popular class so, Sign-up A.S.A.P.

Our Cutting Board Class Teacher, Doug Jones, has an awesome new class that will teach you how to combine Wood with the amazing Epoxy Pour Resins. Students will learn how the epoxy molds work, how to mix the epoxy and add color to create a one-of-a-kind Charcuterie /Cutting Board. The finish Board will measure about 1 x 8 x 18 inches. HANDS-ON. PLEASE NO BEGINNERS. BASIC TURNING SKILLS NEEDED. We have a new Turning Class that will be a big hit! Michael Boyle will provide hands-on teaching as each student turns a small "coke-can" size box with a fitted lid. You will learn how to cut the lid off the main bowl body and then cut a lip on the lid, just right so, it "SNAPS" into place. Turn A Wooden Shop Mallet

HANDS-ON. TURN BEADS AND COVES. Our bowl turning instructor, Michael Boyle, has come up with a new and awesome class that will help you learn the proper way to turn Beads and Coves. You will turn a Shop Mallet. Beads and Coves are the two fundamental designs used in all forms of turning. They are used to decorate all types of woodworking projects like bowls, candlesticks, tools handles and even finials. A finial can dress up the lid of a turned bowl or a lidded box. Students will learn turning techniques, tool selection, wood selection and finishing details. Traditional tools are recommended to cut the fine details but, carbide tools are welcome. Just be aware that carbide tools may not give you the fine details needed to make your design extra sharp. Class size is limited to only 4 students so, SIGN-UP A.S.A.P.
