Resin Casting Basics

Are you interested in learning the steps to make a Resin Casting for the lathe? During this class we will cover the following steps; mixing the resin using a gram scale, mixing colorants (dyes or poweders), filling molds, and proper usage of a pressure pot. We will discuss differernt types of molds, materials to make a mold, materials to put in the mold, and ways to attach your casting to a lathe. Now it is time to cast your own project. You will take home your own casting to take home and turn.

Students will learn the step-by-step process of making custom knife handles from various types of wood. Tools, and techniques will be discussed. The instructor will demonstrate each step and students will apply what they learn. Students will complete a knife to take home.

Lee will introduce you to the most common tools in the shop and assure you understand how to operate each of them safely. You will also learn the essentials about wood grain and movement as you move through the milling process. Students will be paired up during the class, and will leave with a cutting/cheese board that will be a joy to show off This is a hands-on class so come ready to get dirty, have some fun, and create something beautiful!!!
