Woodturning: A Live Edge Bowl

This is one of our more advanced bowl turning classes. We will discuss, in detail, how to harvest your own wood along with best practices in logging, storing and understanding where the bowl and platter blanks are in the log. You will learn advanced tool techniques, how to keep the bark on the blank using CA adhesives, elements of design, form and function and different bowl mounting techniques. You will also learn how to keeping the wings of the bowl the same thickness and how to keep the wings aligned with each other. Each student is responsible for supplying their own eye protection, dust mask, face shield, notebook, 1/2in and 3/8in bowl gouge, round scraper, parting tool. Dovetails are a classic woodworking joint, and in this class, you will learn the ins and outs of Porter Cable's 4200 Series dovetail jigs as you build a box. The 4216 Deluxe Combo Jig will be used by the instructor in the class to show students just how easy it can be to create strong, accurate half-blind dovetails with a quality jig and the know-how to use it! Each student is responsible for supplying their own Porter Cable 4212 or 4216 Deluxe Dovetail Jig with the correct router bits, template guide bushings, safety glasses, hearing protection and a router that will accept the Porter Cable template guide bushings.

CNC II - Making a Simple Sign

This is the second class offered in our CNC curriculum. In this class, students will learn how to make a simple sign. This lecture class utilizes a Next Wave CNC machine and VCarve Software. The instructor will go over work areas, lettering, toolpaths, choosing a bit, and sending it to the machine. Each student is responsible for supplying their own personal laptop loaded with VCarve Pro Trial. Download VCarve Pro Trial at vectric.com/free-trial/vcarve-pro. This is a lecture class. Students will not create any physical projects. The projects made in your VCarve program are saved and can be used to make the sign on your own.
