Introduction To Woodturning

Learn terminology of the lathe and lathe chisels. Understand the three basic cuts in woodturning that will be the foundation of all your woodturning. Practice turning skills, body positions and movements for the development of good and safe turning practices. Apply what you learn and making a small project such as a honey dipper, weed pot, tool handle, Christmas ornament if time permits.

Pen Turning

Students will learn how to select a pen blank and prepare it for the desired pen kit. Then you will learn to turn it to the desired shape and sand it to be free of tool marks, grain and other defects. The final steps will be applying a finish and assembling the pen.

Introduction to Bowl Turning

Participant will learn how to select wood based on species and grain orientation. How to mount the wood using two different technics. How to select the right tool for the turning and shaping of the bowl. Rounding the sides and face in preparation for shaping. Shaping the bowl and hollowing the inside. Finally comes the sanding and finishing.
