Chip Carving 101: Introduction To Chip Carving

This class is a pre-requisite for all Chip carving classes. In this class, you will be introduced to chip carving safety, the tools used, sharpening, wood choice, recommendations on board layouts, and resources on the craft. You'll be shown how to remove three-sided chips on a prepared pattern board to develop the rudimentary techniques needed to chip carve. The goal of this class is to leave with a comprehensive understanding of basic chip carving which will allow you to expand to more intricate projects in the future. You can either bring your own tools from home or purchase the tools at the beginning of class for a 10% class discount. The wood will be supplied by Woodcraft. End Grain Cutting Board

Students will build, over the two nights, a 12" x 18" end-grain style cutting board from two contrasting types of wood. This traditional method of building a cutting board makes it VERY durable. It will take cuts from a knife and not show any damage for many years. You will learn all the skills and tips for end-grain cutting and gluing of the wood. In this class, set up adjustments, blade selection and tension, basic maintenance and various cutting techniques will be covered and demonstrated. Also, we will cover jigs, fixtures, and accessories that can make woodworking more accurate, efficient, and enjoyable. We will provide the food, soft drinks, and materials. You only need to show up and be ready to make some saw dust. In this class you will make a charcuterie board which will involve working with a band saw, router and various sanding tools. You will also make a cheese knife which will include attaching knife scales and shaping the handle. This will involve use of a scroll saw and various sanding tools. Individuals will also learn the technique of finishing these items. Cost is $150 per couple. Safety glasses, Mask or face covering is required. Class size is limited. Chip Carving 102: Nothing But Curves

This course is a continuation of 'Introduction to Chip Carving' and has been designed to complement the techniques previously achieved (three-sided chips). A refresher on safety and resources on the craft will be given prior to starting new material. This course will focus on curved chips as well as the 'stacking method' - a technique often utilized when carving intricate designs that come to a single point. A practice board with different layouts of these designs will be provided. At the conclusion of this class, you will leave with the skills needed to carve intricate pieces with the stacking method. Safety Glasses, Mask or Face Covering is Required. You will also need to acquire your own chip carving knife and sharpening stone (ceramic recommended)

Introduction To Resin Casting

In this beginner class we will explain the steps and necessary equipment and products to produce acrylic pen blanks. Using Alumilite Clear Slow and adding dyes or Alumidust, for a unique look, you will produce a one-of-a-kind pen blank, pouring your mix in a form. The final step, to insure there are no bubbles, will be to place your creation in a pressure pot for an overnight cure. Return the next day to take home the beautiful blank you created; then turn it at your leisure on your own lathe. Safety glasses, Mask or face covering is required. Class size is limited.
