Making rabbets or putting a roundover edge on a board in your future? Our in-store experts will walk you through what you need to know to start using a router.
In order to get clean, tight-fitting joints in your woodworking projects, you must have boards that are flat, square, and true before you begin the joinery. This means you need to be able to use lumber that may be bowed, cupped, or twisted. In this class, the student will learn how to use the Jointer, Planer, Tablesaw, and hand planes to accomplish this fundamental task.
Learn the fundamentals of bowl turning. This will include bowl design, blank preparation, chucking, shaping of the outside, hollowing of the inside and finishing. You will also learn the proper use of traditional bowl turning tools (not carbide), and how to position the tools to create efficient cuts with bowl gouges and scrapers. How to avoid “catches” while using the bowl gouge and how to hold the wood on the lathe for shaping and hollowing. Students will be assigned to their own lathe where they will learn to turn their bowl. Woodcraft will provide a bowl blank and woodturning tools for you to use. You can bring your own tools (not carbide) if you wish, and it is encouraged if you have them, but it is not a requirement. This class is intended for those with some experience working with a wood lathe.
This is a great opportunity to make a 3D cutting board with the master himself: Alex Snodgrass. Using only three different woods – maple, cherry, and walnut – Alex will show each student how to make a stunning 3D end-grain cutting board. He will begin by teaching each student how to tune a bandsaw to make perfect cuts. Students will then progress through techniques required to build a cutting board: how to make dead-on straight cuts and accurate angled cuts on the bandsaw, and how to plane, sand, glue, and clamp the cutting board. Topics to be covered include: bandsaw myths debunked, bandsaw mechanics, correct blade tension, accurate angle cuts, gluing techniques, end-grain planing, end-grain pattern alignment, food-safe finishes, and care and maintenance of cutting boards. By the end of the day, each student will have a fantastic 3D cutting board made with their own hands! This class is designed for woodworkers of all skill levels. From the beginner to the advanced woodworker, every student will leave the class with a 3D cutting board and a smile on their face. Register today – only 10 seats available!
