In this course the student will learn to identify the different types of scroll saws and blades while gaining an understanding of which blade is used for which material. The student will also learn the basic operating principles of the scroll saw including changing blade tension, blade speed, and table angle. Learning proper safety including basic shop safety, personal safety, and safe procedures using the scroll saw will be stressed. This is a hands on class where the student will learn how to make different types of cuts and make some simple projects that can be taken home.

CLS398 - Scroll Saw Compound Cutting Magic Wands

This class will be a fun way to learn compound cutting while making some “Magic” Wands. The class will begin with a demonstration of attaching patterns, selecting blades, making compound cuts on the scroll saw & smoothing your cuts with a sanding star. Then Tim will help you practice attaching patterns & cutting out some “Magic” Wands you can take home. While there will only be class time to cut several Wands, you will leave with an understanding of the process. Plus you will get to keep the book of Wand making techniques & patterns you used in the class! With the knowledge & practice gained from this class you’ll be able to continue your magical journey making wands from this book at home!

CLS024 - Wood Turning Basics: Spindles with the Lathe

In this exciting hands-on class you'll learn the skills required to start making spindles on the lathe as you turn two objects: a cove and bead stick and a vase. Tools covered include the roughing gouge, the spindle gouge, and the parting tool.

CLS024 - The Art of Bowl Turning with the Lathe

This class can teach someone new to the lathe how to make a bowl and can help an intermediate student refine their skills. Topics that will be covered in class: proper tool rest set up, proper approach and angle for efficient cutting, differences between the three different cutters (rougher, finisher and detail), scraping, shear cutting and sharpening. Students will practice the cuts appropriate for shaping and smoothing the inside and outside using traditional tools and carbide tools. Students will turn a bowl in this class. At the end of the class students should be able to turn a bowl on their own. Students are encouraged, although not required, to bring their own tools for an easier transition of skills from class to your own shop.

CLS958 - Epoxy River Table 2 Days

Part 1: Sunday, June 23, 1 PM - 5 PM

Part 2: Sunday, June 30, 1 PM - 5 PM

This is a 2 part class, All students attend both dates. Tution includes the 1st & 2nd date. In this class students will be introduced to the process of making an epoxy river table, including mold construction, slab preparation, and epoxy pouring. Several different epoxy options will be discussed, along with dye and dust coloring. In part one, students will build the mold, cut and treat the slab, and pour the river. In part two, students will be instructed on how to prepare their river table for an epoxy top coat using several power tools such as the table saw, jointer, various sanders, and router table. After preparing, the top coat will be poured and projects would be ready for pickup in about a day.

In this class, you'll make a Camillus BALKUS knife from a blank. The class includes wood resawing, blank shaping, knife assembly, and finishing.

CLS027 Turn 2 Pens on the Lathe

Make 2 pens! Caleb will give you hands on instruction step by step to make 1 pen. Then he will let you repeat those steps to commit them to memory while being available to help as needed while you make a 2nd pen. Making 2 pens back to back is a great way to get you comfortable enough to go home and make pens on your own!

CLS187- Intro To Intarsia

This new class will be a fun way to practice intarsia whether it’s your first time or you’ve taken classes before. In this class you will be making a butterfly. First you will use the scroll saw to cut the wood into pieces & then you’ll use the Guinevere sanding system to give those pieces a life like appearance. When you are done sanding you’ll have the opportunity to dye the wood. Plus you’ll get to keep the book of intarsia skills & patterns that was used in this class. This book has 24 other projects in it! With the knowledge & practice gained from this class you’ll be ready to continue your intarsia journey making projects from this book at home!

This is an interesting and challenging project the instructor has selected for this foray into the magic of scroll sawing. Each student will be making a basket using basically one board. The instructor will walk you through all of the particulars and show you how to make a small basket that will be the source of many a "WOW" reaction.
