WoodRiver® Planes and Spokeshaves are produced to the highest standards from only the finest materials like precision machined ductile cast iron for bodies, A2 steel for blades and genuine hardwood for handles, totes and knobs. Our promise to you is a quality tool that will provide many years of service and enjoyment. Early side rabbet planes such as Stanley’s 98/99 were available in right and left hand versions. Combination planes like the like the Preston 1369 and Record 2506/2506S offered the convenience of two blades into a single plane. The WoodRiver Side Rabbet Plane takes it’s linage from the 2506S and incorporates two manually adjusted blades and an adjustable depth stop. This handy tool is perfect for cleaning up rebates and grooves, ensuring a proper fit. The plane’s precisely machined body is manufactured from 40cr tool steel with a reversible, adjustable depth stop and features T10 steel blades hardened to RC 59-63. The front of the plane is easily removable for conversion to a bull nose configuration for corners and stop dados.

Looks good on paper, but frustrating to use and not very accurate
Pro's : Quality of materials and manufacture are excellent Cons: Cumbersome and finicky to adjust. The blades have to be set by hand, vs an adjusting knob, which is tricky because the blades are very small (it helps to use a very small flat head screw driver to move the blades). To adjust the blades, you have to loosen the locking screw, make the adjustment, re-tighten (don't move the blade!) try it, rinse an repeat. You cant simply reverse the direction of stroke without switching the guide to the other side and having the blades set the same (see above). Easy to cut your self on the blade that is on the grip side. Blades are hard to sharpen because they are so small and hard to hold. The head of the plane has a sharp corner that cuts a groove in the corner of the rabbit if the planer isn't set up are exactly. I am sure that if I used this plane all the time I would get used to it and good at it, but that's a lot of frustration when a standard rabbit plane with simp a guide over comes all of the above.

Great out of the box!
Took it out of the box, disassembled and cleaned off the preservative, touched the blades to a stone, sprayed some T9 on it, and had it reassembled within 20 minutes. Adjusted the blade forward by tapping on the front and backward by tapping on the backside after just loosening the screw. Adjusted the fence to a 1/4 inch and put it to some walnut. The plane cut a clean rabbet with the grain. The cross-grain rabbet cleaned up perfectly with one light pass of my #92 shoulder plane. The sides come to a point so that they will fit tight into the corner of the rabbet. That made the opposite side a little uncomfortable but I quickly learned to adjust my grip. This little guy will come in handy for tuning in drawer bottoms!

Nice rabbet plane for the price.
This rabbet plane's double sided body is machined accurately. For comfort simply slit a rubber hose and place it over the exposed edge to protect your hand. A flexible style rubber work grip glove works great and you won't drop it or tire your hands. I have not. The blades a shorter than I would like them to be. Buy it, try it and be happy you bought it.

Good plane
Really great and versatile plane. Makes a difficult task super easy, as well using the tool is super easy as well. Anyone who cuts dados or rebates, especially withhand tools, needs one of these planes.

VERY Good Plane!
I LOVE this little plane! It is very good at what it is intended for and, compared to expensive planes of the same type, it can do the job just as well. You can't beat the price considering what it would cost at Lie - Nielsen, so one cannot go wrong buying this baby. In response to the "casual" woodworker who wrote in and did not like this plane because there was no instruction, I must gently suggest to him that, with more experience, he will know how to use the plane. This is a specialized plane which means that anyone buying it will already know from practical experience on how to use it. Good luck to him and if he stays with woodworking he will know what I mean.

Groovy with caution
I use it to clean up the sides of grooves and widen it if its just a tad too narrow. Works really nicely after a long session flattening the back of the blade and sharpening the bevel. Blade came roughly machined. Blade is also difficult to adjust the depth of cut. Best way I've found is to set it too deep, set the hold down so the blade will move with some effort, and then tap the back so it pulls the blade back. Somewhat like backing out the blade on a Japanese plane. Also the screw holding the nose on the plane came sheared off. The guys at WC used a thin needle nose pliers to get it off. m4 x 20 screw worked perfectly. So quality control is not as good on this plane as the V3 bench planes and the blade is difficult to adjust. But once sharpened and adjusted it works great. Made a table with miter slots for my drill press. This tool trimmed the slots so my miters slide with no play. Not sure if I could get it that accurate with any other tool. So I love what it does but I recommend this plane if you are skilled at sharpening and setting up planes.

Woodriver Side Rabbet plane
Nice plane at a reasonable price. Obviously if you were to pay the premium prices demanded by other manufacturers you would get better quality but I doubt it would be 4 times better as the others are 4 times dearer. I am satified with this plane and I may consider more Woodriver products in the future.
