We have been working for several years with a barrel reclamation company that buys, sells, reconditions and recycles used oak barrels from bourbon breweries large and small. Their goal is to recycle 100% of every barrel. We have been buying bourbon barrel staves for use in all types of projects, but we have had many customer requests for additional barrel products in more manageable sizes.

These White Oak Knife Scales come from genuine used Bourbon Whiskey barrels that have some charring from firing the barrel prior to aging the whiskey for four or more years. Staves have been dried and brushed to remove excess char. Staves are, of course, bent to make the barrel, but we have cut out and milled pieces to remove much of the bend.

Distillery Reserve: Taken from the heads of the barrels, the coveted Distillery Reserve is what you would consider “small batch.” These knife scale pieces can be charred wood, patinaed and distillery marked boards, and even occasionally will display handwriting from the distillers themselves.

Other Whiskey Wood® Knife Scale options include:

Cooperage Select (#162057): Taken from the staves of the barrel, the rustic patina on this wood is like its own history book. Boards have iron stains from the metal bands used to hold the barrels together. Though not guaranteed, these boards do have distillery stamps and markings on them. The inside char of the barrel has been cut away to make the 3/8" thickness and is clean quartersawn white oak.

Black & Tannin (#162058): Dark charred wood from inside the barrel. Boards can be sanded lightly to make a very interesting look. The reverse side is clean quartersawn white oak.
